Teacher training in Great Britain
Teaching is without doubt one of the most rewarding professions. The government has put teachers at the heart of the drive to raise standards across the education system. The country’s economic and cultural future depends on high academic standards being achieved in our schools, and teachers help us make this happen.
How do you become a teacher? To be awarded QTS by the General Teaching Council for England (GTC) you must: ü complete a period of training, such as a one-year professional or Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) course; ü complete a period of induction, known as the newly qualified teacher (NQT) year; ü pass QTS skills tests in literacy, numeracy and information and communications technology (ICT).

The course of study • School-based experience, Subject studies and Education studies. • Theory of Education is one of the main subjects.
• Students are to make their choice. • Junior students go into schools for one day each week. • Senior students spend fifteen weeks on teaching practice.
Examinations • Examinations are held at the end of each term.
