Tag-questions (разделительные вопросы) Это вопросы – наживка. Цель их – не запрос информации, а получение поддержки собеседника, провоцирование его ответной реакции, побуждение к продолжению беседы.

Tag-questions часто используются в клишированных формулах вежливости, светских разговорах о погоде и пр.

Структурно они состоят из двух частей: повествовательного предложения и краткого вопроса Tom can swim well, can’t he? Если повествовательная часть утвердительна, то вопрос отрицателен и наоборот. +, − He can skate, can’t he? −, + He can’t skate, can he?

Чтобы образовать разделительный вопрос: 1. Найдите сказуемое: She is American. We mustn’t get up early tomorrow. Tom will be here soon. a) Если в первой части предложения есть глаголы to be (is, are, was, were); to have (has, had), will, shall; или модальный глагол (can, could, must, would, should) и они стоят в положительной форме, то после запятой следует поставить этот же глагол в отрицательной форме и наоборот. She is American, isn’t……. ? We mustn’t get up early tomorrow, must……. . ? Tom will be here soon, won’t……. . ?

б) Если в сказуемом нет этих указанных глаголов, то после запятой следует поставить вспомогательный глагол do/does или did в зависимости от времени действия: You like cats, don’t. . . . ? Your sister plays tennis, doesn’t……. . ? Sally went to university, didn’t………. ? 2. Подлежащее замените на местоимение и поставьте его в конец предложения: You like cats, don’t you? Tom will be here soon, won’t he? Your sister plays tennis, doesn’t she? Moscow is a beautiful city, isn’t it ?

Add the tag endings You haven't got a car, couldn’t he? Mary will be here soon, won’t she? Tom could help us, have you? There was a lot of traffic, does she? Sue doesn’t like onions, wasn’t there?

При ответе на разделительный вопрос следует помнить, что в отличие от русского языка обе части ответа должны содержать либо отрицание, либо утверждение. −You don’t live in Moscow, do you? −Ты ведь не живешь в Москве? −Yes, I do. −Нет, живу. (несогласие) −No, I don’t. −Нет, не живу. (согласие)
