Four official languages: German, French, Italian and Romansh. Switzerland is one of the richest countries in the world by per head gross domestic product of € 45. 450. Form of government: Democracy.
Geography • • • The geography of Switzerland is notable for its great diversity. Switzerland’s three main geographical regions are the Jura, Plateau and the Alps. Switzerland has over 1. 500 lakes. The two largest are lake Geneva and Constance. It measures 220 kilometers from north to south and 350 km from east to west. The 26 cantons of Switzerland are the member states of the federal state of Switzerland.

Jura Makes up about 12 percent of Switzerland’s surface area. Located on average 700 meters above sea level.
Plateau It covers about 30 percent of the country`s surface area, but is home to two thirds of the population.
Alps In the Alps, which cover a large part of the country, live just 10% of the total population.
Culture • Folk arts Folk art is kept alive in organizations all over the country. In Switzerland it is mostly expressed in music, dance, poetry, wood carving and embroidery. But it is difficult to speak of a homogeneous Swiss culture. The influence of German, French and Italian culture on their neighboring parts cannot be denied.
• Alphorn - Since 16 th Century. - Used to communicate over distances and to put enemies to into escape. - Farmers used instruments for their work with animals.
• Almabtrieb During summer, all over the alpine regions cow herds are feed on alpine pastures high up in the mountains. In autumn, these herds are led to their stables down in the valley, in the Almabtrieb cow train.
Swiss Guards Is the name given to the Swiss soldiers who have served as bodyguards, ceremonial guards, and palace guards at foreign European courts since the late 15 th century. They have had a high reputation for discipline, and loyalty to their employers. The task of the Swiss Guard is not military. The main task of the Guard is, "to constantly watch over the safety of the Holy Father and his residence“
• Raclette and Fondue or raclette is what most people link with a "Swiss food ". But that there are many different types of food. Typical Swiss specialties are, for example, Rösti, soups and stews.

Four of the hundred largest multinational corporations have their headquarters in Switzerland: Credit Suisse, Nestlé, Novartis, Roche International financial and economic crisis: 2009 GDP has declined in real terms by 1. 9 % 2010 GDP increased again by 2. 6%. Unemployment rate in January 2010: 4. 5%
• • • Germany: Main trading partner for Switzerland is a member of all major international economic organizations (OECD, World Bank and WTO…) Confidence in Swiss as financial center. Economic and political stability of Switzerland trust in the Swiss franc. = International investment currency. Switzerland is also sees itself as the oldest liberal country. It has always rejected foreign judges. = Independence: SFr(Swiss Franc)
