Geography • • • The geography of Switzerland is notable for its great diversity. Switzerland’s three main geographical regions are the Jura, Plateau and the Alps. Switzerland has over 1. 500 lakes. The two largest are lake Geneva and Constance. It measures 220 kilometers from north to south and 350 km from east to west. The 26 cantons of Switzerland are the member states of the federal state of Switzerland.

Jura Makes up about 12 percent of Switzerland’s surface area. Located on average 700 meters above sea level.
Plateau It covers about 30 percent of the country`s surface area, but is home to two thirds of the population.
Alps In the Alps, which cover a large part of the country, live just 10% of the total population.
Culture • Folk arts Folk art is kept alive in organizations all over the country. In Switzerland it is mostly expressed in music, dance, poetry, wood carving and embroidery. But it is difficult to speak of a homogeneous Swiss culture. The influence of German, French and Italian culture on their neighboring parts cannot be denied.
