Function In an electric power system, Switchgear is the combination of electrical disconnect switches, fuses or circuit breakers used to control, protect and isolate electrical equipment. 2
History Switchgears are as old as the electricity generation. The first models were very primitive: all components were simply fixed to wall. Later they were mounted on wooden panels. For reasons of fire protection, the wood was replaced by slate or marble. 3
Types (1) Kind of an electric circuit: a) Switching centers with one system of bus. b) Switching centers with two system of bus. c) Systems of bus 4
Types (2) Substances: 1) 2) 3) 4) Gas – simple construction. Oil – evaporation is used. Vacuum – small interval of a gap. Air – the arch vanishes by the distance. 5
Scope Switching centers are applied in electric circuit, in sites where formation of an electric arch is possible. 6
The countries manufactures Germany – is leader in manufacture and working out of switching centers. Now there compact highvoltage switching centers are invented. 7
The conclusion If switchgear isn’t used in electric power system, electric circuit would break very fast, by the shot current circuit. 8
