Overview n Background n Where we are now n Where we are headed 2
Defense Logistics Standard Systems n Beginning in 1962, the DLSS were established to provide uniform procedures for logistics operations within the Do. D and to realize the advantages of advancing computer technology n One of the DLSS: Reporting of Supply Discrepancies, DLAI 4140. 55, AR 735 -11 -2, SECNAVINST 4355. 18 A, AFJMAN 23 -215 3

D’s requirements for total logistics support. Ø Founded upon American National Standard Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X 12 Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). Ø Expanded to support emerging EB/EC capabilities such as: data sharing, automated identification, web-based technology, electronic malls, etc. 4
Policy n Do. DD 8190. 1, Do. D Logistics Use of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Standards, May 5, 2000 n Do. DD 8190. 2, The Do. D Electronic Business/Electronic Commerce (EB/EC) Program, June 23, 2000 5
Implementation n Adoption of Commercial EDI Standards for Do. D Logistics Phased Implementation Plan n Pilot Projects: Web SDR 6

Web SDR Goals n Customer-friendly Web Process Ø Auto-fill feature reduces customer input • Determination of appropriate action activity • Original requisition information retrieved from DAAS history • Shipment information retrieved from DAAS history • Address, associated, calculated information Ø Data requirements keyed to type of discrepancy Ø Immediate verification of questionable input Ø Automated help 8
Web SDR Goals n Improved Data Content Control Ø SF 364, ROD, data blocks • Remove obsolete data • Clarify existing data blocks • Add new data elements Ø Drop down code lists • Expanded / current Ø Supporting documentation • Photographs • Scanned image of documents 9
Web SDR Goals n Quicker Response/Less Effort Ø Reduces delays resulting from misrouted SDRs or mailed documents Ø Electronic interface eliminates data entry at action activity 10
Web SDR Goals n Security Assistance Product Quality Deficiencies Ø Expanded management information to support appropriate resolution • Encourages narrative details • • • Circumstances Prior to Difficulty Description of Difficulty Suspected Cause Action Taken Recommendations 11
Web SDR Goals n Security Assistance Product Quality Deficiencies Ø Expanded management information (continued) • • Addition POC information Location of Deficient Material Category I or II Quantity in Stock Item New or Repaired/Overhauled Item Under Warranty End Item and Next Higher Assembly Date Deficiency Discovered 12
Web SDR Goals n Customized Interface with Legacy Systems Ø Flexible design for file transfer Ø Conversion to email where requested n ANSI X 12 EDI Ø Available when Component modernization programs implemented 13
Web SDR Long Range n Do. D-wide Management Information n Phase-out/Reduce Component-unique Web Submission Programs n Interactive Point of Contact Directory (future release) n Phase II Web-enabled Response 14
