Supervised by Duncan Langford You're in a supermarket and not feeling well – can technology replace a doctor? Aim: GPs are not always available; but a simple booth in a station or supermarket could provide an effective substitute. This project aims to provide a sample of such a system, and will demonstrate how a local intelligent system and graphical user interface can provide useful medical analysis and even diagnosis of symptoms. Who will benefit: Through the use of an automated system, people who are unable to see medical practitioners will be able to diagnose themselves with a reasonable degree of correctness. How is it used? • Enter your Sex, Age, Height and Weight. Your Body Mass Index will be displayed. • Use the Symptom Selector to select parts of the body where you are experiencing trouble or type a symptom to search for it. • A possible diagnosis will be displayed Welcome page Disclaimer Your Details Your Symptoms Your Diagnosis How does it work? Virtual Doctor is a knowledge based system which processes a list of symptoms and patient details and matches them against illnesses stored in a relational database. • Our intelligent spell checker easily sorts out common spelling problems • Diagnoses are ordered according to the number matching symptoms against the symptoms corresponding to different illnesses. • The system contains an alternate symptom selector instead of the text search feature. By selecting parts of the body on an image, possible symptoms can be displayed based on the area the user has clicked. • The Likeliness of having an Illness is based upon the following colour coding scheme: • RED - > 90% or higher matching symptoms • AMBER - 50% - 90% of symptoms that match the illness diagnosed • GREEN - > 20% of symptoms that match the illness diagnosed Further developments: • Use of plug in devices to measure body data and feed into system (E. G: heart rate monitor) • Set up a webcam link to local doctor further consultation • Add a weighing scale to the kiosk so that data can be automatically fed into system (more precision • Add a symptom to multiple illnesses Virtual Doctor Team: Daniel Ives Mohammed Khan Graham Ridley Nathan Phillips Heidi Lees
