q. A tablet is a solid dosage form that is prepared by compressing or molding of the drug into various sizes and shapes. q. Dissolution is the rate-limiting step in the delivery of drug from a tablet to the systemic circulation.
Types of tablets: q. Tablets for oral administration q. Tablets for vaginal administration q. Tablets for implantation (pellets)
Capsules q. The drug is contained in a gelatin shell that breaks open after the capsule has been swallowed, releasing the drug. q. The hard-shell gelatin capsules contain solid drugs q. The soft-shell gelatin capsules contain oils
Dragee— the firm dosed medicinal form received by layer-by-layer putting active ingredients on microparticles of inert carriers with use of sugar syrups. The candies having a similar appearance from above covered with glaze, also are called as "dragee". Dragee — confectionery of the small sizes of the roundish form, covered with a glossy protective cover or with a sugar polished surface.
Powder q. Powders are drugs or drug extracts that are dried and ground and micronized into fine particles. q. According to the division into prescribed doses powders are pulveres indivisi (all doses are given inseparably) and pulveres divisi (they are divides into the prescribed number of doses). q. According to the composition are simplex powders (consist one active ingredient) and complex powders (a mixture of more than one active ingredient).
Granula — the combined dry loose substances and mixes or the separate firm dosed and not dosed substrata pressed in the form of grains of spherical, incorrectly cubic or cylindrical form. Granules can be applied to feeding of animals (fodder granules), in pharmacology, as biofuel.
q. The tablets contain a drug substance in flavored base. q. Lozenges are allowed to dissolve in the mouth. They are commonly used for cold and sore throat.
