Stuart Mackenzie New Paintings The House for an Art Lover Glasgow 2009 This large Stuart Mackenzie New Paintings The House for an Art Lover Glasgow 2009 This large scale solo exhibition represents new paintings of the landscape around the coastline of Scotland. The exhibition continues my ongoing research into the landscape, flora, fauna and wildlife of rural Scotland shows the culmination of an intense period of work constructed both insitu and also in the studio. Stuart Mackenzie New Paintings The House for an Art Lover 2009 Output No. 3 Stuart Mackenzie New Paintings The House for an Art Lover 2009 Output No. 3 Stuart Mackenzie This exhibition was held in ‘The Mackintosh House for an Art Lover’, it comprised thirty oil paintings that explored aspects of the Scottish landscape specifically river estuaries where salmon rivers meet the sea. This collection of thirty oil paintings represent an ongoing research investigation into the landscape, This collection of thirty oil paintings represent an ongoing research investigation into the landscape, flora, fauna and wildlife of rural Scotland, having grown up in the North of Scotland within the landscape amongst landworkers. This exhibition a body of work demonstrating the fact that I have been profoundly interested in the representation of the countryside particularly the riverways and tidal routes leading to the sea through which wild salmon journey. The tones and colours of the works reflect the transition of daylight around these landscapes, often worked upon in situ as well as in the studio. RESEARCH QUESTION The intention of this exhibition was to research the relationship between migratory RESEARCH QUESTION The intention of this exhibition was to research the relationship between migratory river systems where fresh water meets the sea and to archive the horizon line at these various locations at different times of the year. METHOD These paintings were executed using consistent formats and were painted with traditional master oil painting techniques. These works were seen collectively as a time based, sequential installation. The exhibition took place at The House For An Art Lover, Glasgow taking the form of an installation of paintings in the gallery space. This venue was important in that it is a public space and has a very large turnover of international visitors. This solo show followed an initial exhibition held earlier in 2009 at the same venue titled 'Common Ground'. A twoperson show including Stuart Mackenzie and Jimmy Cosgrove that presented the initial aspects of the research undertaken, focusing upon the land, which has consistently informed the work. Coming from a background of gamekeepers, landworkers and fishermen the work. Image one & a description of what we are has looking been structured through a very close affinity to nature. at in the context of the project. 'Common Ground' acted as the precursor to the solo exhibition 'Stuart Mackenzie: New Paintings' and enabled the final presentation of the work and research.
