LITERARY DEVICES Foreshadowing means to hint at what is going to happen. Onomatopoeia is the sound occurring throughout the story. Example: “Poppy put the quill back in her sash, she was hoping she would never have to use it. ” “Whoosh! Mr. Ocax dove in at Poppy. ”

POINT OF VIEW Point of View is where the author tells it from a characters perspective. In Poppy, Mr. Ocax and Poppy are telling the story. When they are changing perspective in Poppy, they will ether start a new paragraph or they will put something like this: * * *.
SETTING Time: Present Place: Dimwood Forest, Gray House, New House, Bannock Hill, Glitter Creek, Cornfield, Ereth’s Log, Mr. Ocax’s Watching Tree, and Tar Road.
CLIMAX AND CONFLICT Climax is the most exciting or scariest part of the story. In Poppy, it is when she is fighting Mr. Ocax with the quill. Conflict is the problem in the story. In Poppy, Mr. Ocax wanted to eat Poppy. Also, Mr. Ocax won’t let Poppy and her family move to New House.
