ABOUT OUR COMPANY IN GENERAL • TO SAY STARBUCKS PURCHASES AND ROASTS HIGH-QUALITY WHOLE BEAN COFFEES IS VERY TRUE. THAT’S THE ESSENCE OF WHAT WE DO – BUT IT HARDLY TELLS THE WHOLE STORY.
It’s not unusual to see people coming to Starbucks to chat, meet up or even work. We’re a neighborhood gathering place, a part of the daily routine – and we couldn’t be happier about it. Get to know us and you’ll see: we are so much more than what we brew.
Starbucks Story! Our story began in 1971. Back then we were a roaster and retailer of whole bean and ground coffee, tea and spices with a single store in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Today, we are privileged to connect with millions of customers every day with exceptional products and nearly 18, 000 retail stores in 60 countries.
Starbucks is named after the first mate in Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. Our logo is also inspired by the sea – featuring a twin‐tailed siren from Greek mythology. It is a common knowledge that our mission is to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.
STRUCTURE OF OUR COMPANY When companies grow, their organizational charts also grow. Business growth spawns newly created and highly reorganized departments, which transform a once-simple organizational chart into a labyrinth of boxes connected via a series of straight and dashed lines. Starbucks is no exception.
• Our coffeehouses have become a beacon for coffee lovers everywhere. Why do they insist on Starbucks? Because they know they can count on genuine service, an inviting atmosphere and a superb cup of expertly roasted and richly brewed coffee every time.
