Construction Main thing they are trying now is to print the constructional material. (There is a merit that the printed object is one piece, so it has more strength than something constructed by multiple pieces. ) 3 D printed models are already used for presentation for customers.
Research Drexel University in the U. S. is using 3 d printer to make the smaller model of fossils and figuring out how the dinosaurs moved. Those model could be useful for research and help people understand more.
Manufacturing If there is a 3 D printer, production of something is possible, so if the cost of the machine and the material become cheaper than current manufacturing, small/middle firms could come into the market. Usually production make profit by mass production since it cost a lot of resources (labor, space, and equipments) but 3 D printer will not need much resources, so manufacturing system now could lose advantage if 3 D printer become popular
Preserving historical documents Because 3 D printer is very precised and many material could be used, museum could have 3 D printed replicas of statues to display and protect original one from the damage by surround.
