Using man-made turtle hatcheries (called 'viveros') to protect turtle eggs and joining in vigilant beach patrols, volunteers provide vital resources and support. Volunteers will take part in night patrols and will assist in tagging and data collection. There are no roads in the area, and visitors to Caño Palma arrive by boat via a network of rivers and canals. Instead of working for humans, the elephants are cared for by a team of full-time staff and park volunteers.
