Example 1 ---Failed one subject q Suppose a student with the following results: v Chinese I (3 credits) v English I (3 credits) v Japanese I (3 credits) A B F 4. 00 x 3 = 12. 0 3. 00 x 3 = 9. 0 0. 00 x 3 = 0. 0 GPA = (no. of points gained)/(no. of credits attempted) =(12. 0+9. 0+0. 0) / (3+3+3) = 2. 33
Example 2 ---Repeat the failed subject q Suppose a student with the following results: v Chinese I (3 credits) v English I (3 credits) v Japanese I (3 credits) A B F B 4. 00 x 3 =12. 0 3. 00 x 3 = 9. 0 0. 00 x 3 = 0. 0 3. 00 x 3 = 9. 0 (Repeat) GPA = (no. of points gained)/(no. of credits attempted) =(12. 0+9. 0+0. 0+9. 0) / (3+3+3+3) = 2. 5
Example 3 ---Retake one Subj. to improve GPA q Students are allowed to retake those subjects with a grade of C or below to improve his/her GPA. Suppose a student with the following results: v v Chinese I (3 credits) English I (3 credits) Japanese I (3 credits) (Retake to improve GPA) A B D B 4. 00 x 3 =12. 0 3. 00 x 3 = 9. 0 1. 00 x 3 = 3. 00 x 3 = 9. 0 GPA = (no. of points gained)/(no. of credits attempted) = (12. 0+9. 0+3. 0+9. 0) / (3+3+3+3) = 2. 75
Example 4 ---Subject with ‘W’ or ‘I’ Grade q The ‘W’ and ‘I’ grade will not be included in the GPA calculation: v Chinese I (3 credits) v English I (3 credits) v Japanese I (3 credits) A B W 4. 00 x 3 =12. 0 3. 00 x 3 = 9. 0 --- GPA = (no. of points gained)/(no. of credits attempted) =(12. 0+9. 0) / (3+3) = 3. 5 v ‘W’-Withdrawn; ‘I’- Incomplete
Example 5 ---Non Credit Bearing Subjects q The Grades of “Non credit bearing subjects” will not be included in the GPA calculation: v Chinese I (3 credits) A v English I (3 credits) B v Effect.
