What do they do? Neurosurgeons are surgical specialist who provide both surgical and non-surgical services. Non surgical services- evaluation, prevention and rehabilitation (healing) They operate on the Brain, Spine, and other parts of the nervous system. they treat and diagnose injury and disease of nervous system
Education Students will go through several years of tough instruction, and then only will they become a certified neurosurgeon. Students should take numerous Math and Science courses in High School/ College to be advance into the Medical field Patients will feel safe knowing that the person operating has extensive knowledge and experience!
Education 4 years of College Ex: Pre-Med, Undergraduate Degree at University of Texas or Texas A&M 4 years of Medical School Ex: Pass MCAT and get into Johns Hopkins Medical School and earn M. D. – Doctor of Medicine MCAT- Medical School Admission Test 5 -7 years of Residency at a Clinic or Hospital Optional: receive board certification after Residency= post graduate training to give student more experience in their field of medicine
Working Conditions Neurosurgeons work in clinics, hospitals, or their own Private practice They work in extremely sterile fields during surgery May have to stand long hours (during surgery) Job is filled with high levels of stress Work 50 -80 hours a week!
Pay Paid during residency, anywhere from $38, 000 - 60, oo 0 (depends on # of years you have completed of the Residency) Neurosurgeons (Employees at Hospitals/Clinics)- $ 267, 000 -637, 000 Neurosurgeon at Private Practice- $ 500, 0001, 200, 000
Characteristics a Prospective Surgeon Should Possess Kind, Able to answer questions confidently, Compassionate towards patient and their family, and dignified Ample Knowledge of: Math Science Computers Advanced Technology
