SHIPWRECKED!
Shipwrecked! - is a major new TV series featuring 6 volunteers (plus any children they have) who will go and live on a remote island in the Pacific Ocean for a whole year.
They will be accompanied by a cameraman who will have complete freedom to film them. The aims of the programme are to see how modern people survive in primitive conditions, and how the group can manage to get on with each other. The participants will be paid 150. 000 pounds each if they complete the year successfully, but nothing if they leave even a day early.
The chosen island is uninhabited and the climate is tropical. It can only be reached by boat and helicopter. It is an eight-hour journey to the nearest hospital. Participants will be given basic building materials and emergency food supplies, but they will be expected to gather and hunt for food themselves. The cameraman will have a radio to call for help in emergencies, or if anyone decides to leave.
From several thousand applicants a shortlist of ten has been made. They have just attended an assesment weekend, after which the final six will be chosen.
NICK Background: investment banker, 34, high earner from a wealthy family Fitness: 7 out of 10
Nick Charming and funny, he got on well with everyone on the surface, but his desire to participate in the project may start to crumble when life gets really tough. Does he really know what he is letting himself in for?
Our psychologist about Nick: He is impossible to dislike. There was never a dull moment when Nick was around. He is a bit of a womaniser. He obviously fancied Paula, but he was also flirting with Julia and even with Michelle, who was on the project with her husband!
Briony Background: Nurse, 25, single, Marathon runner. Fitness: 10 out of 10.
Briony Very committed to the project. She has realistic attitude to the physical challenges. She seemed to understand the value of teamwork in theory, but in practice often worked on tasks individually and did things her own way.
Our psychologist about Briony: Briony is a very driven person, almost obsessively determined. She seems a nice young lady, but very, very serious. She lacks sense of humour, and not even a bit.
RON Background: 48 years old, headmaster of a primary school, married to Beverly. They have 3 children aged 4, 10 and 12, who would accompany them on the island. They spend all their holidays camping and hiking. He has a lot of experience organizing adventure holidays for young people. Fitness: 7 out of 10
RON There is no doubt that his desire to participate and his experience would be invaluable for the group. He had a helpful attitude to the others. Anyway, one or two participants seemed to resent his rather overbearing and pushing attitude.
Our psychologist about RON: Ron is really fine, but he seemed to push his wife and kids around quite a bit — a typical headmaster. He likes to order people about all the time!
BEVERLY (Ron's wife) Background: Teacher of household science, mother of three children, 49 married to Ron. Fitness: 6 out of 10
BEVERLY (Ron's wife) Beverly was liked by the group, and seemed to work well in a team. She seems to have realistic expectations of the island should cope well.
Our psychologist about Beverly: Beverly is a really nice and kind woman, but I wish she stopped running round after husband all the time!
MARK Background: Computer programmer, 31. Mountaineering enthusiast. Single. Stated on his application form that he is gay, but did not want to make this known to the group at this stage of the project. Fitness: 9 out of 10
MARK He is very good in a team. He was popular with the other group members. His mountaineering experience makes him one of the best prepared candidates.
Our psychologist about MARK: Mark is a really nice person, a bit serious, but very likeable. None of the others seemed to realize that he was gay. In fact, one or two of the women were definitely trying to chat him up!
JASON Background: 29 -year old builder, married to Michelle. They have an 8 -year old daughter Chloe who would accompany them. Fitness: 9 out of 10.
JASON He is obviously highly committed to the project. He is a quiet man who works well in a team. He was very supportive and was very liked by the other particpants.
Our psychologist about JASON: I bet Jason is a little bit henpecked. A really good guy, but shame about his wife.
MICHELLE Background: 28. Part-time hairdresser. Married to Jason, mother of 8 -yearold Chloe. Fitness: 4 out of 10
MICHELLE Pleasant enough with the other participants, but showed a tendency to moan all the time. Some of the others began to pick this attitude up, which irritated them.
Our psychologist about MICHELLE: I didn't really warm to Michelle, to be honest.
CHRIS: Background: Exarmy marine, 27. Unemployed at present. Divorced with 7 -year-old son, who would not accompany him Fitness: 10 out of 10
CHRIS: He is extremely committed to the project, with invaluable experience to bring to the group. He is a natural loner. Perhaps he secretly contempts those in the group who are less tough than he is.
Our psychologist about CHRIS: He is very intense, even a bit weird. I think Chris is a nice person deep inside, but he is very hard to get to know. Trying to keep a conversation going is really hard work.
JULIA Background: Owner of a restaurant, 37, single. Very urban. Fitness: 6 out of 10.
JULIA Got on very well with the other people in the group who appreciated her sense of humour and supportive attitude. Although this is something completely different for her, she does seem to have ideas about the life on the island, and has realistic expectations.
Our psychologist about JULIA: Julia is great! She made everyone laugh all weekend — a really good sort of person! Julia obviously fancied Nick a lot, and she also seemed to be quite interested in Mark. She even tried to flirt with Jason when his wife was not looking.
PAULA Background: 22, student and part-time model, has never had a full-time job. Single. Fitness: 6 out of 10
PAULA Friendly and very cooperative, worked well in a team. Doesn't seem to have a clue about how tough life on the island will be, however.
Our psychologist about PAULA: I didn't think I was going to like her, but actually she is a really sweet girl. Paula is incredibly good-looking. It was obvious that practically all the men in the group fancied her. Two or three of the women (Michelle and Julia, for example) seemed to be a bit jealous of her.
