Shakespeare 1564 -1616
Shakespeare was born in 1564 in a town called Stratfordupon-Avon. His father was an important figure of the government of his town; his mother came from an important local family.
When he went to London he had a series of jobs; also he became an actor; in 1592 he was a famous dramatist, and he was attacked by the playwright Robert Greene (he said that uneducated dramatist were becoming more popular than university men like himself). In 1595 Shakespeare joined an important company of actors called The Lord Chamberlain's Men (later changed to King's Men) and performed at court. His success as dramatist grew; The Earl of Southampton, to whom he dedicated his sonnets, became his patron and friends. His good financial position allowed him to invest in the building of the Globe Theatre and in 1597 he bought New Place, the finest house in Stratford.
After the plague he wrote about 2 plays a year. Shakespeare wrote a total of 37 plays. This made William a wealthy man. The first play performed was Julius Ceasar.
At the end of his life, Will returned to Stratfordupon-Avon to retire. He died in 1616.
In 1623, seven years after the death of Shakespeare, two of his actors decided to publish the first collection of his plays including thirty-five plays, that were divided into Comedies, Histories and Tragedies.
The Montagues and the Capulets are two families in conflict. During a ball Romeo, the son of Lord Montagues, falls in love with Juliet, the daughter of Lord Capulet. With the help of a Friar they marry secretly the next day, but Romeo is banished to Mantua, for having killed Juliet’s cousin in revenge of the murder of his friends. Meanwhile Juliet, in order to not marry a Count as her father wants, helped by the Friar decides to drink a potion which will give her the appearance of being bead for 42 hours in this way she could go away with Romeo; but Friar’s message doesn’t rich Romeo in time, so he seeing Juliet dead, decides to kill himself. When Juliet awakes, she finds her beloved dead and kills herself.
The king of Denmark and Hamlet's father, has dead and after two months his wife gets married again with her brother-in-law, Claudius, and he becomes the new king. Hamlet was told that a ghost that looked like his father was appeared in the castle and with his friend Horatio decides to look for it. The ghost tells Hamlet that he was killed by Claudius and asks him for a revenge. Hamlet makes a plan to murder Claudius and he lets all the people think that he's got mad. Polonius, the king's counsellor, believe that Hamlet's got mad because of he was in love with his daughter, Ophelia. Hamlet's plan goes on. In the caste he makes a play in which he acts the scene of the murder. His mother and Claudius are very surprised. While he was talking to his mother, Hamlet looks at a man that is hearing their conversation and he kills him since he thinks that he's Claudius. But he's wrong since the man was Polonius. Claudius sends him in England to get rid of him. When he goes back Denmark, Ophelia is dead since she's killed herself and her brother, Laertes, wants to revenge his father and sister's deaths. So Hamlet and Laertes makes a duel in which both of them die since they hit each others with the poisoned tip of Laertes's sword. The queen dies since she drinks a poisoned wine destineted to Hamlet. Claudius dies murdered by Hamlet. The new king is Horatio, nominated by Hamlet before his death.
