Writing Personal Letters Writing a Friendly or Personal Letter has 5 main parts. 1. HEADING: Includes the address and the date. In some cases, it is OK to just write the date. 2. GREETING: The greeting usually starts with 'Dear' and is followed the person's name and then a comma. 3. BODY: After skipping a line, you begin the body of your letter which is the main text of your letter. Indent for each new paragraph. 4. CLOSING: The closing includes a short capitalized expression such as 'Sincerely' or 'Love' and is followed by a comma. Skip a line after the body before writing your closing. 5. SIGNATURE: You sign your name beginning directly below the closing. 6. Sometimes you may add a POSTSCRIPT at the end of your letter. You write P. S. , add a note and then end it with your initials.
Ashley Kalinski 1754 Orange Street FULLARTON SA 5063 12 January 2012 date body address greeting Hi Sophie, I’m writing this from the cutest little café in New York! I feel like I’m on Friends! Mum’s been making sure we don’t miss one sight in the whole city, so we’ve been walking practically all day. So far we’ve seen Times Square, Broadway, Central Park and The Plaza. I caught a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty but we’re going to go and see it properly tomorrow! The streets are super busy here and everyone looks amazing in their winter coats and hats. I had to buy mittens today! I miss being able to feel my fingers! Hope you’re enjoying your holidays. Miss you times a million, see you back in Adelaide on the 20 th! Ask you friend some questions. (What is your favorite color? Do you have any pets? Do you play sports? etc. ) Share about a place you visited. Ask for advice. Model 1 10 th December Hi Vic, How are you? What are you doing this New Year’s Eve? Jean and I have decided to hold a party at home this year, and we’d love it if you could come. We’re planning quite a small party with our old school friends, soyou’ll know all of the guests. There’ll be lots to eat and drink. We’vedecided to give the party a Mexican theme, with lots of spicy food. You’ll probably be coming by train won’t you? Just give us a ringfrom the station and I’ll pick you up. As the party will be quite late, you’ll need to stay the night. Don’t worry there’s plenty of room foreverybody. We’ll, I really hope you can make it. It seems ages since we lastsaw. Please let me know as soon as possible. Lots of love, Mark Source: http: //www. scribd. com/doc/12258697/How-to-Write-Informal-Letters
Model 2 Dear Maria, I thought you'd never reply to my last letter! Anyway, back to your question. Well, if I were you, I'd choose the museum job. Working in a restaurant would be very tiring. Trust me I've done such a job, and I quit within a month! However you talk to lots of people, listen to their discussions which can sometimes be very interesting but still you get really tired. Working in a museum though can be really interesting. You just have to explain to the visitors what is what. You may think that you will have to talk all day, but that's not true. You see many people just like to browse through the museum. You also have to remind the rules of the museum to some that disobey them, but these people are usually very few; not something you should worry about. I heavily suggest you take the museum job. It's easier and less tiring. I'm looking forward to get your reply. Lots of love, George
Model 3 December 6 th Dear Jane, I hope you are feeling better Are you able to sit in the garden and enjoy the sunshine? We all miss you in the office and look forward to your return. There have been a fewchanges since you went into hospital. Eric Johnson has now retired (lucky man) and. Matthew has taken over Eric's job. He is struggling at the moment. He hopes you willreturn soon to rescue him from the muddle. I thought you would like the book I'm sending you with this letter I saw it in the bookshop and thought it would make you laugh. I know you 've always wanted to livein Greece. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it and find time to read it before you return towork Take it easy and look after yourself I'll write again soon. Best regards, Sheila
Good luck
