Visiting College Campuses • Learn about the college before you visit • Evaluate the environment of the campus • Arrange for campus meetings with department heads in the subjects that interest you and coaches in sports where you excel or have an interest • Look into life beyond academics • After each visit, write down your impressions of that college
Questions to Ask a College Representative • What majors or programs do you have? • Is tutoring available? • Do you offer part-time job assistance (workstudy)? • What is the average class size? • When can I apply for housing? • Will all my dual credit or AP scores transfer for college credit?
Questions to Ask a Military Recruiter • How long do I have to enlist for and what is the minimum commitment? • Am I eligible for any special enlistment programs or bonuses? • What do I have to score on the ASVAB test to qualify? • How soon will I leave for basic training? • How will my career be determined?
Questions to Ask a Potential Employer • Can you tell me about the day to day responsibilities for the job? • What are the next steps in the interview process? • Are there prospects for growth and advancement? • What type of training is provided?
Letters of Recommendation • Consider asking individuals who best know your personal qualities and work. • Consider the deadlines and the time it takes to write a letter (request letter at least two weeks in advance). • Make an appointment in advance to ask for a letter. • Offer a personal resume or recommendation worksheet with your activities, involvement, achievements. • Write a note to thank the individual for writing the letter.

Scholarships • A Scholarship Update is online at www. fargo. k 12. nd. us/north on the counseling and career center page • Most applications are attached to the scholarship update through a link, however some need to be picked up in the counseling center • Be sure to check the update throughout the school year – each scholarship has a different deadline

Financial Aid • Apply for Student Aid beginning October 1 of their senior year. • The Free Application to Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available online at www. fafsa. ed. gov • The FAFSA document determines eligibility for all financial aid programs. • Complete 2016 taxes prior to applying for financial aid.
Transcript Release Information • Fargo Public Schools uses an online electronic transcript system called Parchment to send transcripts. • Students received an email through their school email to set up an account. • Questions can be directed to Nikki Brandenburger, Registrar. • Requests should be submitted at least 24 hours prior to deadline.
