School Hours Mater Academy Elementary School Hours: • Before/After Care: Please see Maria at the After Care Window for more info. • Students are allowed into their classroom at 7: 45 • Instruction begins at 8: 15 • Dismissal is at 2: 45 M, T, TH, F and 1: 45 on Wednesdays. • Please note that if you are late to pick up your child, your child you will be charged $1 per minute until you arrive.

Class Schedule • Everyday I will provide your child with instruction in Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. (see schedule provided for a detailed layout of our day)

Daily Routine Morning Routine Dismissal Procedures • • Students will enter the classroom at 7: 45 am each day. • Greet the teacher and any students in • attendance. • Students will copy new homework in their agendas. • • After copying their homework students will begin working on Morning Work until • it is time to begin our day. • If a student is done with morning work before 8: 15 am, they should read a book silently. • • Students need to be in class by 8: 15 am. After 8: 15 am the student is considered tardy unless otherwise specified by the • administration. 10 tardies will result in a referral. Bus students will be dismissed promptly at 2: 30 pm. After Care and Parent Pickup students will clean up their area and pick up their belongings. At 2: 45 pm the class will line up and walk to the front of the school. After-Care students will be dismissed to the cafeteria and parent pickup students will be taken to the designated dismissal area by the teacher. Students are not to return to the classroom once the class has left to the dismissal area. When students are packing up, it is their responsibility to make sure that they have all materials necessary for any homework assigned.

Attendance • Students should arrive in class no earlier than 7: 45 am and no later than 8: 15 am. • Students who arrive later than 8: 15 am will be marked TARDY. • 10 unexcused tardies will result in a Behavior Notification. • If a student is absent, they will be marked unexcused until a note is brought in to excuse the absence. • Notes to excuse absences should be brought in within 72 hours. • Only 10 handwritten notes will be accepted. Every note after that must be a doctor’s note. • Three unexcused absences will result in a Behavior Notification.

Behavior Our Classroom Rules: • 1 - Follow directions quickly. • 2 - Raise your hand for permission to speak. • 3 - Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat. • 4 - Make smart choices. • 5 - Keep your dear teacher happy! I will be using Class Dojo to reward points/consequences. Please see below for the point systems that I will be using in the classroom. If rules are FOLLOWED: • 1 -19 green points= Praise • 20 -35 green points= Stickers • 36 -49 green points= No Homework Pass • 50+ green points= Treasure Box **When students reach 50 points and have visited the treasure box, their bubble will be reset to zero** If rules are BROKEN: • 1 -2 red points= Verbal warning • 3 red points= Silent Lunch • 4 red points= Loss of privileges (recess, field trips, etc. ) • 5 red points= Parent contact **Behavior Notifications will be given as necessary**

Homework • Homework is given Monday-Thursday. SOMETIMES on weekends. • Students are responsible for writing their homework in their agenda on a daily basis. • Reading Comprehension, Language Arts (Grammar), Spelling/Vocabulary, and Math are part of the daily homework. • Students are responsible for taking the materials needed to complete their homework. • Homework will be checked daily and there will be a homework grade given at the end of each quarter. • No homework or incomplete homework will be given a 0.

Conferences • Conferences are held during specials (we will schedule a time when necessary). • Conferences can be requested via e-mail or Dojo. • I will confirm with you a time and date. • Sorry but today is NOT for conferences. • If you need to speak about your child’s academics or behavior, please make sure that you checked YES for conference on the attendance sheet.

Volunteer Hours • 30 volunteer hours per student • If there is 1 or more siblings in the school, hours should be divided equally amongst each child’s teacher. • Field Trips (chaperones receive 6 hours) • School Functions (volunteers receive hours for time spent) • Materials for Academic Learning (extra supplies brought in with receipt earn hours) • Gift Cards to Wal-Mart/Staples/Target/Office Depot • Every dollar spent – 1 volunteer hour • Items purchased for classroom but have a receipt to earn hours • **MAPA Parent Application (Classroom Parent)**

• Read! Reading is essential for success! • Read to your child! Read with your child! • Help develop a love for reading in your child. • Have your child read 15 -20 minutes daily.

Scholastic Reading Club • This year I highly encourage reading by joining the Scholastic Book Club and ordering books for your child. • Every order will give our class points. The more points we get, the more free books we get!! • The magazine will go home once a month with our class code to order with and a due date. • Orders will be accepted online with your credit/debit card or in class with a completed order form and CASH only. • Class Code: N 49 LM
