Scared Heart Convent Ranebennur
Scared Heart Convent Ranebennur is one of the developing talukas in Haveri district with 110 villages with mixed population of different creeds and status. Though there are only 11 Catholic families, our presence is felt in this place because of our mission in teaching in Kinder Garden and Diocesan School.
Bishop Bernard Moras requested us to come to Ranebennur to be the Christian presence.
The scared heart convent had a unique beginning unlike the other convents. Sr. Mary Anne the provincial superior invited Sr. Concepta, Sr. Alesia and Sr. Vijaya to begin the convent in Ranebennur
So On Nov 4 th 1997 we the sisters of Ranebennur came here. It was the off shoot of Lourdes convent. Sisters were living in a rented house opposite a petrol bunk. As soon as the people saw the sisters they requested us to start a school. After one year of negotiation the KG class was opened with 5 students on the first day.
Due to lack of space for the KG class and the living of the sisters, we had to shift to another spacious house at Uma shankarnagar on 1 st May 1999. It became a full fledged community with Sr. Marisa as the first superior.
As the students increased and the 2 nd standard started we had to take another rented building at pampa nagar on April 2001.
Meanwhile we got land where in we began to construct our convent.
At last by Sept 9 th 2003 our convent building was completed and sisters were shifted to huncikatti road. Oct 19 th 2003 was the blessings of the new house. Bishop Bernad Moras, provincial, superiors and sisters were present for the Inauguration. Sr Grace D’souza was appointed as the second superior.
We have the K. G school
Sr. Gloria and Sr. Flavy along with other staff run its function.
St. Lawrence High School is managed by the Diocese of Belgaum. Sr Lucy is the Head Mistress and Sr. Vijaya teaches in the higher primary class.
We go for regular family visits, Do the follow-up of the Ex-Alcoholics.
We derive the strength from the Eucharistic Lord present in the Chapel.
In this successful 15 th Year, The members of the community are Sr. Grace (Superior) Sr. Bernardita, Sr. Lucy, Sr Gloria, Sr. Vijaya and Sr. Flavie. We are happy to belong to the Lord, and happy to serve Him
