“…the great deceiver will make it appear that Christ has come. In DIFFERENT PARTS of the earth, Satan will manifest himself among men as a majestic being of dazzling brightness, resembling the description of the Son of God given by John in the Revelation. “And then the great deceiver will persuade men that those who serve God are causing these evils…It will be declared that men are offending God by the violation of the SUNDAY sabbath; that this sin has brought calamities which will not cease until SUNDAY observance shall be strictly enforced…” GC 590

The ruin of Jerusalem was a symbol of the final ruin that shall overwhelm the world. The twenty-fourth chapter of Matthew gives an outline of what is to come upon the world. This Day with God PG- 152

Christ forewarned His disciples of the destruction of Jerusalem and the signs to take place prior to the coming of the Son of man. The whole of the twenty-fourth chapter of Matthew is a prophecy concerning the events to precede this event, and the destruction of Jerusalem is used to typify the last great destruction of the world by fire. -Ms 77, 1899. FIRST APPLICATION OF MATTHEW 24 When the idolatrous standards of the Romans should be set up in the holy ground, which extended some furlongs outside the city walls, then the followers of Christ were to find safety in flight. " This warning was given to be heeded forty years after, at the destruction of Jerusalem. The Christians obeyed, and not one of them perished in the destruction of the city. GLORIOUS HOLY MOUNTAIN The “GLORIOUS HOLY MOUNTAIN” refers to God’s cleansed church AFTER probation has closed, when ALL within her borders are “without spot or wrinkle or any such thing”. And as the patriarch wrestled all night for deliverance from the hand of Esau, so the righteous will cry to God day and night for deliverance from the enemies that SURROUND them. But isn’t the Abomination of Desolation the SUNDAY LAW?

As the siege of Jerusalem by the Roman armies was the signal for flight to the Judean Christians, so the assumption of power on the part of OUR NATION in the decree enforcing the papal sabbath will be a WARNING to us. It will then be time to leave the LARGE cities, PREPARATORY to leaving the SMALLER ones for retired homes in secluded places among the mountains. 5 T pg 464 -465

The US Sunday Law is NOT the Abomination of Desolation in the holy place Abomination of Desolation Matthew 24: 15. Luke 21: 20 If the Abomination of Desolation were the US SUNDAY LAW and we are commanded to flee IMMEDIATELY to the mountains, no presumptous dallying, then who will receive the latter rain & who will proclaim the LOUD CRY of the third angel and who will proclaim the Sabbath more fully? What of the purified ministry heralded in by the Sunday law? The events associated with the abomination of desolation versus those to take place after the Sunday law are at loggerheads. Try and piece the ‘puzzle’ together and there is only one way to harmonise the SOP statements and the Bible, line upon line. The great issue so near at hand [enforcement of Sunday laws] will weed out those whom God has not appointed and He will have a pure, true, sanctified ministry prepared for the latter rain. --3 SM 385 (1886).

It evidently Fourth of Matthew, Lecture 1, pg 16 means the Romans and their armies making desolate Jerusalem. Here Inspiration comes to our aid. Jesus tells us the "abomination of desolation" spoken of by Daniel the prophet will "stand in the holy place" before the destruction of Jerusalem. Luke 21: 20 simply says, "When ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. " These words refer directly to Daniel 9: 27, which follow the prophecy of verse 26, "the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. QUES. In what chapter of the Great Controversy does Sister White place Satan’s personation of Christ? ANS. In the chapter titled, “The Time of Trouble” “The wrath of Satan increases as his time grows short, and his work of deceit and destruction will reach its culmination IN THE TIME OF TROUBLE. . . As the crowning act in the great drama of deception, Satan himself will personate Christ. ” GC 623 -624.

QUES. What is this “time of trouble”? ANS. Jacob’s trouble which begins after probation closes. [EW 36 -37; 1 T 204]. “About four months since, I had a vision of events, all in the future. And I saw the time of trouble, such as never was, --Jesus told me it was the time of Jacob's trouble, and that we should be delivered out of it by the voice of God. ” The Day-Star, 03 -14 -46.

QUES. Where does the Bible describe Satan’s personation of Christ? ANS. Matt 24: 14 -23. During the “Tribulation” or Time of Trouble which occurs AFTER the “end” of probationary time (Matt 24: 14). After the end of probationary time will be the “great tribulation” (Jacob’s Trouble). “THEN if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here [is] Christ, or there; believe [it] not. ”

QUES. What chance would Satan have of deceiving the very elect into believing that he was Jesus come back THE SECOND TIME if he came BEFORE probation had closed? ANS. Very Little. The very elect know that Jesus does not return until after the passing of the Sunday law, the outpouring of the plagues and the death decree.

QUES. It appears that Satan will come as Christ before apostasy has become worldwide. “In this age antichrist will appear as the true Christ, and then the law of God will be fully made void in the nations of our world. Rebellion against God's holy law will be fully ripe. But the TRUE LEADER of all this rebellion is SATAN clothed as an angel of light. ” Mar 205. Does this teach that Satan will personate Christ BEFORE the Sunday law is passed? The following questions help to clarify this issue.

(a) If Satan personates Christ before the Sunday law is passed then how does one explain why the saints will be crying day & night for Christ to come and deliver them when Satan appears? LAST DAY EVENTS pg 164 -165 states: “One effort more, and then Satan’s LAST DEVICE is employed. He hears the UNCEASING CRY for Christ to come, for Christ to DELIVER THEM. This last strategy is to PERSONATE CHRIST, and make them think their prayers are answered. ” How can anyone explain this before the Sunday law? !!!

(b) If Satan personates Christ before the Sunday law then how does one explain that Satan appears in the “time of trouble”? GC 622 -624 states: “The “time of trouble, such as never was, ” is soon to open upon us. . . The wrath of Satan increases as his time grows short, and his work of deceit and destruction will reach its culmination IN THE TIME OF TROUBLE. . . As the crowning act in the great drama of deception, Satan himself will PERSONATE CHRIST. . . the great deceiver will make it appear that Christ has come. ”

How can the “Time of Trouble” occur before the Sunday law!? Note: The servant of the Lord did NOT say “little time of trouble. ” In fact she NEVER once uses the term “little time of trouble. ” Even if one adds the word “little” [God forbid] to the word of God we may still ask, Does even this little time of trouble occur BEFORE the Sunday law? !!!

The prophet tells us that the time of trouble is Jacob’s trouble: “About four months since, I had a vision of events, all in the future. And I saw the TIME OF TROUBLE, such as never was, - JESUS TOLD ME it was the TIME OF JACOB’S TROUBLE, and that we should all be delivered out of it by the voice of God. ” The Day-Star, Mar 14, 1846. How can the “Time of Trouble, i. e. Jacob’s Trouble, be before the Sunday Law? !!! As the Death Decree begins the Time of Jacob’s Trouble (EW 36 -37) how can the Death Decree occur before the Sunday Law? !!!

(c) If Satan personates Christ before the Sunday law then how can the personation be called Satan’s “LAST effort. . . LAST device. . . LAST strategy. ” LAST DAY EVENTS pg 164 -165 states: “Satan sees that he is about to lose his case. He cannot sweep in the whole world. He makes one LAST DESPARATE EFFORT to OVERCOME the faithful by deception. He does this in personating Christ. . . One effort more, and then Satan’s LAST DEVICE is employed. He hears the unceasing cry for Christ to come, for Christ to deliver them. This LAST STRATEGY is to personate Christ, and make them think their prayers are answered. ” LDE 164 -165 If the Sunday law [another effort to overcome the faithful, the big test] occurs after Satan’s personation then how could the personation be described as Satan’s LAST strategy if it occurs before the Sunday law?

(d) If the antichrist in the first sentence is Satan then why does it say a few words further on, “BUT the TRUE LEADER of all this rebellion IS SATAN? Doesn’t this show that the word antichrist in the first sentence is NOT referring to Satan, the TRUE LEADER of rebellion?

(e) If the “antichrist” in this first sentence is not Satan the TRUE leader of rebellion, then who could it be?

ANTICHRIST, the man of sin, exalted himself as SUPREME in the earth, and THROUGH HIM Satan has worked in a masterly way to create REBELLION against the law of God and against the memorial of his created works. Is this not sin and iniquity? The Signs of the Times 03 -12 -94

Paul explains in 2 Thessalonians 2: 3 -9 “. . . that MAN OF SIN (“antichrist”) be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, SHEWING HIMSELF THAT HE IS GOD (“appear as true Christ”). . . whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: [Even him], whose coming is AFTER [according to] THE WORKING OF SATAN (“the true leader of all this rebellion”) with all power and signs and lying wonders. ”

ANS. The antichrist spoken of in this passage CANNOT be Satan because the passage continues, “Antichrist will appear. . . BUT the true leader. . . is Satan. ” Antichrist in this statement is probably used as in 3 SM 402: “Antichrist, meaning all who exalt themselves against the will and work of God. ” 3 SM 402.

TM 62 “In this age antichrist (the Papacy) will appear as the true Christ, and then the law of God will be fully made void in the nations of our world (universal Sunday law). Rebellion against God's holy law will be fully ripe. (The beast of Revelation 13 is instrumental in all this, not Satan in person. EGW has this to say: “Antichrist, the man of sin, exalted himself as supreme in the earth, and through him Satan has worked in a masterly way to create REBELLION against the law of God and against the memorial of his created works. ” SOT 03/12/94). But the true leader of all this REBELLION is Satan (correct, as noted in the above quote) clothed as an angel of light. (In the teachings & leading of the catholic church and her apostate protestant daughter). Men will be deceived (yes, the Pope is only human & not God) and will exalt him (How? Through exalting the papacy. Remember the emperors of Rome were deified also. The Papacy today is in a position to assume the place of God) to the place of God, (“who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped. . . ”) and deify him (“. . . so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God showing himself that he is God”. We have always applied these verses to the man of sin, the Papacy which harmonises with the TM 62 statement). But Omnipotence will interpose, and to the apostate churches that unite in the exaltation of Satan, (through the doctrines & WORSHIP of the beast, Rev 13, 14. Remember worship is due to God alone, Matt 4: 10) the sentence will go forth, 'Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. ”

QUES. It appears that Satan will come as Christ working miracles while the loud cry is going forth. “But while Satan works with his lying wonders, the time will be fulfilled foretold in the Revelation, and the mighty angel that shall lighten the earth with his glory, will proclaim the fall of Babylon, and call upon God's people to forsake her. ” Mar 189 ANS. This statement nowhere clearly speaks of Satan personating Christ. Satan performs his lying wonders WITHOUT being visibly present. Satan has worked lying wonders in the past, and he is today working lying wonders without being visible as Christ. This he will continue to do.

QUES. What will the saints be doing when Satan, in desperation, appears as Christ? ANS. Praying unceasingly for Christ to come and deliver them. “Satan sees that he is about to lose his case. He cannot sweep in the whole world. He makes one last desperate effort to overcome the faithful by deception. He does this in personating Christ. . . One effort more, and then Satan's last device is employed. He hears the unceasing cry for Christ to come, for Christ to deliver them. QUES. What causes the saints to cry unceasingly for Christ to come and deliver them, and what do they need delivering from? ANS. The Death Decree. “A DECREE went forth TO SLAY the saints, which caused them to cry day and night for deliverance. ” EW 36

QUES. When will the Death Decree be passed? ANS. After probation has closed. “When Jesus leaves the most holy, His restraining Spirit is withdrawn from rulers and people. They are left to the control of evil angels. THEN such laws will be made by the counsel and direction of Satan, that unless time should be very short, no flesh could be saved [cf. Matt 24: 22]. ” 1 T 204 “I saw that the four angels would hold the four winds until Jesus' work was done in the sanctuary, and then will come the seven last plagues. These PLAGUES enraged the wicked against the righteous; they thought that we had brought the judgments of God upon them, and that if they could rid the earth of us, the plagues would then be stayed. A DECREE went forth to slay the saints, which caused them to cry day and night for deliverance. This was the time of Jacob's trouble. ” EW 36 -37

QUES. The death decree is a strategy to overcome the faithful but if Satan’s personation of Christ is his LAST effort to overcome the faithful then doesn’t that mean that it must come after the Death Decree? ANS. Yes. “Satan sees that he is about to lose his case. HE CANNOT SWEEP IN THE WHOLE WORLD. He makes ONE LAST DESPERATE EFFORT to overcome the faithful by deception. He does this in personating Christ. . . One effort more, and then Satan's last device is employed. He hears the unceasing cry for Christ to come, for Christ to deliver them. This last strategy is to personate Christ, and make them think their prayers are answered. ” LDE 164 -165

QUES. Will Satan ever do anything desperate at a time when he has no chance of success? ANS. Yes. In desperation Satan will attempt to capture the New Jerusalem. The fact that there is no chance of success does not prove that the event will not then occur. We must not assume that Satan will personate Christ before probation’s close.

QUES. It appears that Satan will come as Christ before God’s unmingled wrath (the plagues) are poured out. “But the people of God will not be misled. The teachings of this false Christ are not in accordance with the Scriptures. His blessing is pronounced upon the worshippers of the beast and his image, the very class upon whom the Bible declares that God’s unmingled wrath shall be poured out. ” GC 625 ANS. “Declares” is present tense. The Bible declares TODAY that those whom Satan will bless are those who shall receive God’s unmingled wrath. Note: The worship of the beast & image and the observance of the counterfeit sabbath, will ALREADY be happening when Satan appears. Satan is to come AFTER the Sunday laws have been passed.

QUES. After probation closes there will be no possibility of deceiving the elect. What would be the point of Satan coming as Christ after probation has closed? The objection is actually an assumption. It ASSUMES that Satan will come at a time when it is still possible to deceive the elect, but this is to assume what the objector must prove. Just because a strategy has no chance of succeeding does not mean that it will not happen. After the millennium, long after probation’s close, Satan will again personate Christ, lead an army to surround the saints again, and fail again. The fact that he has no chance of overcoming the saints does not prove that he will not try. Both of Satan’s personation strategies at the beginning and end of the millennium have no chance of success. Satan’s personation of Christ is to be an act of desperation (LDE p 164 -165).

QUES. After probation closes there will be no possibility of deceiving the elect. What would be the point of Satan coming as Christ after probation has closed? Last Day Events -PG- 234 In the time of trouble Satan stirs up the wicked, and they encircle the people of God to destroy them. But he does not know that "pardon" has been written opposite their names in the books of heaven. --RH Nov. 19, 1908. As Satan influenced Esau to march against Jacob, so he will stir up the wicked to destroy God's people in the time of trouble. . He sees that holy angels are guarding them, and he infers that their sins have been pardoned, but he does not know that their cases have been decided in the sanctuary above. -GC 618 (1911).
