Residency History Scott AFB Family Practice Residency est. 1972 n Southern Illinois University Family Practice Residency est. 1981 n Merged in 1996 under St. E, SLU in 1997 n Scott AFB Inpatient Services closed 2005 n Southern Illinois Health Foundation took civilian clinic oversight in 2006 n

Residency History n Current site of military and civilian clinics n n n Downtown Belleville, IL Across from hospital Clinical space on 3 rd floor split by AF and SIHF n n n AF here since 1996 Over 25 K of space total Office and educational space on 4 th floor used by faculty and residents

Curriculum—PGY 3 n n n 4 wks inpatient medicine 4 wks inpatient “faculty” 6 wks surgical subs n n n n urology, ophtho, ENT 2 wks neurology 4 wks G. I. 4 wks sports medicine 4 wks practice mgt 4 wks community med 4 wks dermatology 20 elective wks (PG 2 -3)

Military Unique Curriculum n Combat Casualty Care Course (with ATLS) n n CSTARS (Trauma Course) n n 2 wks, PGY 3, at SLU Goal 36 hours of formal didactics by graduation n n 2 wks, PGY 3, in Texas Profiles, deployments, etc Elective opportunities n Aerospace Medicine Primary Course, infect. disease, etc

Call Schedule n PGY-1 n n n PGY-2 n n n 1 week of night float during inpatient months 7 days of short call during inpatient medicine months Q 4 on inpatient medicine and ICU Q 7 -14 on remaining rotations PGY-3 n n Q 4 on inpatient medicine and “faculty” rotations No other scheduled overnight calls

Continuity Clinic Will easily exceed RRC Requirement of 1650 clinic patient encounters over 3 yrs of training n PGY-1: 1 -2 half days per week n PGY-2: 2 -3 half days per week n PGY-3: 3 -4 half days per week n Color Team Structure (1 nurse, 4 docs, 4 techs) allows for better continuity and opportunity for process improvement projects n
