Post Secondary Prep Sessions (PSP) PSP #1: PSP #2 October 26 -27 th Grad credits, post secondary application process, Career Cruising and other websites, making yourself stand out Nov 29, 30, and Dec 1 st Post secondary funding, scholarships, essay writing for scholarships, COBSS application process PSP #3 April 19 th PSI Form, self reporting grades, getting ready for the next steps such as creating schedules, choosing classes, securing on-campus housing *The 1 -hr sessions will run in Blocks A, B, C and D Students need only attend one session of each PSP*

GRADUATION TRANSITIONS Students must earn 4 credits for Graduation Transitions, which includes creating and presenting their M. A. Provincial Exam News • Students taking English 12 and/or Communications 12 this year write the corresponding provincial exam to receive course credit, - No Change • Students taking Science 10, En 10, a Math 10, SS 11 and/or BC First Nations 12 THIS SCHOOL YEAR do not write provincial exams. New this year • Students who completed the course work for Science 10, English 10, a Math 10, SS 11 and/or BC First Nations 12 prior to June 30 th, 2016, are required to write the corresponding provincial exam in order to receive course credit. Those exams are available this year on multiple dates if a student did not write last year. See your counsellor for dates
Provincial Exam News Continued: For students who completed course work prior to June 30 th 2016 For those who completed the course work for Science 10, English 10, a Math 10, Socials 11 and/or BC First Nations 12 prior to June 30 th, 2016 and wrote the exam but did NOT PASS the course, we can offer: A. Rewrite the exam this year to achieve a passing overall mark. B. Re-take the complete course in its entirety in school this year. In this case, the student does NOT write a provincial exam as the course work is being completed after June 30 th, 2016, which no longer requires a provincial exam. See counsellor to discuss the best option for you
How to Access Provincial Exam Scores Online • Ensure you have your Personal Education Number (PEN), which you can get from your counsellor or at the top of your report card • Go to: www. bced. gov. bc. ca/exams/

NEW: BC Excellence Scholarship $5000 scholarship awarded to 55 students • This scholarship recognizes well-rounded graduates demonstrating community service and leadership both inside and outside of school. • Schools will nominate one eligible student who will then complete the application. • Applications due to Ministry of Education by Feb. 15 th 2017 Students must: – – – Be in their graduation year Have a B average in all grade 11 academic courses Have a B average in Grade 11 and 12 courses required for Graduation Submit a resume Provide 2 references- one from school, one from community Provide a written statement describing their accomplishments
NEW: BC Achievement Scholarships $1250 scholarship awarded to 8000 students • This scholarship recognizes broad achievement in courses meeting graduation program requirements with a B average • The Ministry will determine recipients based on student’s achievement in Grade 10, 11 and 12 courses needed to satisfy graduations program requirements. • Must meet basic eligibility requirements: – Must be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident – Must be a BC resident – Must be registered in a BC public school • Students do not apply for this scholarship!
NEW: Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarships • This $5000 annual scholarship recognizes exceptional Grade 12 students planning to enter the field of K-12 teaching • This will be awarded to 20 students intending to enter the BC Faculty of Education Program • The $5000 voucher will be able to be redeemed upon entrance to the Faculty of Education Program • Students must meet basic eligibility requirements • Applications must be completed by students by Feb. 15 th 2017 • Applications available at www. bced. gov. bc. ca/scholarshipsprogram

How Do I Apply for District / Authority Awards? • Students will be nominated by their teacher in early March of their grad year • Students will be nominated if they demonstrate excellence in one of the five outlined areas and are planning to pursue that subject area in their post-secondary studies • Students will be notified and then invited to prepare an application package & an overview of procedures • Presentations to be delivered on MAP day in May.
Redeeming a Scholarship Voucher • This scholarship may be used to pay for tuition fees for: *University *College *Some Apprenticeship Programs *Some Entry Level Trades Programs • Students will be mailed a congratulatory letter, certificate and scholarship voucher • The Ministry pays the scholarship to the post secondary institution in which the student is enrolled • Vouchers are valid for 5 years from the date of graduation

“Earn While you Learn” If you are working in a trade or would like to work in a trade, registering for SSA will allow you to be eligible for up to 16 credits and a $1000 scholarship.

GRAD PHOTOS • Registration has begun for Grad Photos by Lifetouch Photographers: register online @ www. rss. sd 23. bc. ca November 15 th to Dec. 7 th • All grads must get their picture taken by Lifetouch to be in the yearbook and the wall composite; however, students are not obligated to purchase photos through Lifetouch. • If you would like to also get your grad photos taken elsewhere, see Mr. Gunn or Mrs. Harvie in the Career Centre to borrow a grad cap and gown. Please not pictures taken elsewhere will not be included in the yearbook or compostite.
