About the Scholarship Program • Purpose – to recognize and reward student talent at RIM. • Opportunity to be recognized for accomplishments. • Five (5) $3000 scholarships awarded every semester • Started the scholarships in 2008 by University Relations Team • Visit go/scholarship for additional information • Scholarship committee Review and grade all applications • Meet to agree upon 5 winners. •
Am I Eligible? • Eligibility criteria Must be a current co-op/intern/student (term ending no later than November 1, 2011) • Must have a positive reference from manager (references will be checked) • • Manager must submit reference form via email to scholarship@rim. com • Must be in clear academic standing (no probation) • If you are selected as a winner, you will have to provide proof of good academic standing • Must have a minimum cumulative average of 70% in the Applicant’s post-secondary program • Unofficial Transcript required with application
How do I apply? To apply (complete all): 1) 2) Must complete the RIM Scholarship Application Form Compose a ONE (1) page essay on: • • what you learned at RIM on your current work term and what impact you had on RIM why you believe you are deserving of the scholarship (DO NOT reference financial assistance) how this scholarship will help in achieving the student’s goals. Letter size page, 11 pt font minimum, single spaced ***Application form, 1 page essay, and unofficial transcript must be emailed to: scholarship@rim. com*** 4) Your Manager must send the referral form directly to scholarship@rim. com 3) 5) Interoffice hard copy of signed application form to Jinty Smith, RIM 12. Scholarship Period: July 24 th – July 4 th, 2011(5 PM EDT)
Manager’s Reference Form • How has the student gone above and beyond what was expected of them? • What unique characteristics does the student possess that sets them apart from others on the team? • What impact did the student have on your team and RIM? • Why is the student deserving of the scholarship?
Selection Criteria: • Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship committee and will be judged based on the following selection criteria: • Communication Skills/Clarity/Style (5 points) – spelling, grammar, thought progression, transitions • Creativity (10 points) – visual appeal, unique ideas • Academic Accomplishments (10 points) – Dean’s List, courses on co-op, etc • Extracurricular Accomplishments (10 points) – design competitions, intramurals, etc • Community Accomplishments (10 points) – volunteer work, etc • Demonstration of Work Experience and Success (30 points) – work related accomplishments, team work, leadership, etc • Manager referral (10 points) – does the current manager provide a positive reference for the student applying for the scholarship? • Manager ranking (10 points) – on a scale of 1 -10 where does the manager rank the student. • RIM Experience (5 points) – Sliding scale of points based on number of months completed. Maximum of 5 points awarded.
Terms and Conditions • Awarding Of Scholarship: Scholarship winners will be contacted via email approximately 12 weeks following the Scholarship Period closing date. We will use the alternate contact email information provided on the application form. • Each award winner will be required to respond to the award email within 1 week of it being sent • Each winner must provide proof of good academic standing and eligibility to proceed in his/her academic program prior to receiving a Scholarship Award. • RIM must report the Scholarship Award to the applicable taxing authorities and each successful Applicant is solely responsible for the payment of any taxes as may be required by the applicable taxing authority. •
Terms and Conditions • Communication of Winners • • • After the close of the Scholarship Period, and winners have been contacted and confirmed, all Applicants will receive an e-mail announcing the names of successful Applicants. The message will be sent via email to the alternate address information listed on the scholarship application form. This email can be up to 7 weeks after the winners find out
