Research • The collection of texts, images, facts, figures, examples, ideas, similarities, memories… • Specific analysis through writing, exploration, criticism, evaluation, comparison…
Analysis • From the Greek Analusis ‘breaking up’ • For artists the analysis of research would normally occur through ‘process’ • Formally, it may involve the mapping out of the process of ‘another’ in order to define those things that are important • To map out differences by way of exclusion

MODELS OF RESEARCH
“ Encyclopedists” is the name usually applied to the group of French philosophers and men of letters who collaborated in the production of the famous Encyclopedie , or were in sympathy with its principles. The intention was to provide a complete alphabetical treatment of the whole field of human knowledge
Geoff Dyer’s introduction to The Ongoing Moment (2005), in responding to The Order of Things : ‘the static grid of the taxonomy began to melt into the looser more fluid forms of narratives and stories. ’ (Dyer, 2005: 6 -7)
In The Order of Things (Trans. 1970) Michel Foucault relates a classificatory system described in Jorge Luis Borges’ essay The Analytical Language of John Wilkins (1942) which refers to a ‘certain Chinese encyclopaedia’ in which animals are divided into: (a) belonging to the Emperor, (b) embalmed, (c) tame, (d) sucking pigs, (e) sirens, (f) fabulous, (g) stray dogs, (h) included in the present classification, (i) frenzied, (j) innumerable, (k) drawn with a very find camelhair brush, (l) et cetera, (m) having just broken the water pitcher, (n) that from a long way off look like flies. (Foucault, 2003: xvi)
Drawing, calligraphy, dance, painting or drama, Greenaway’s cinema encompasses all arts. Whether it explores the genesis of a work of art or the complex processes at stake in artistic creation, it is always meant to show art as magic and the work of art as an artifice.
Such Borges-like cataloguing partakes both of an irony and of a genuine wish to evoke the context and tends to turn the very film itself into a ‘cabinet of curiosities’.

“ WUNDERKAMMER“! An almost intoxicating collage of acrobatics, burlesque, erotic and comedy makes the people in Berlin curious. For the first time in Europe, the CHAMÄLEON Theater presents the latest creation of the successful Australian company C!RCA. «Wunderkammer» debuted in Brisbane, Australia in September 2010 and received rave reviews from the press: «Fantastic entertainment: shocking at times, thrilling, sexy, beautiful,
Rationale During the next 4 weeks (and beyond) of Fine Art Practice 1 B a committed and specific series of research activities should be carried out, in order to: Establish a routine of practice based research.
