RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION Zlokazova Helen PONB-205
Religious discrimination — restriction of people in the rights on the basis of their religious affiliation.
FEATURE The main feature of religious discrimination is that sometimes she has not especially religious background, but the hidden social and political motives.
Religious discrimination is valuing or treating a person or group differently because of what they do or do not believe. Specifically, it is when adherents of different religions (or denomination s) are treated unequally, either before the law or in institutional settings such as employment or housing.
Religious discrimination is related to religious persecution, the most extreme forms of which would include instances in which people have been executed for beliefs perceived to be heretic. Laws which only carry light punishments are described as mild forms of religious persecution or as religious discrimination.
Even in societies where freedom of religion is a constitutional right, adherents of religious minorities sometimes voice concerns about religious discrimination against them. Insofar as legal policies are concerned, cases that are perceived as religious discrimination might be the result of an interference of the religious sphere with other spheres of the public that are regulated by law (and not aimed specifically against a religious minority).
MODERN LEGISLATIVE PROVISIONS Within the legislation of many countries the official prohibition on participation in manifestation of acts of religious intolerance is provided. The constitution of other countries in which there is no direct instruction for a religion occasion have the provisions forbidding discrimination on religious beliefs. However also laws of some states assume preference of one belief to another.
There are countries which obviously support religious tolerance. A debate concerning limits of tolerance is provided in them. The problem of installation of these borders is that some laws forbidding religious discrimination contradict freedom of expression. That is why texts of these laws usually include not only behavior which is punished, but also its consequences. For example, in Australia actions which kindle hostility are forbidden, show disrespect, are the instrument of ridiculing of religious beliefs of other people.
EXAMPLES OF RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION • When Orthodox Christians cut out 10 thousand Catholics and very cruel way • Crusade
RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION IN RUSSIA Discrimination based on religion or to religious beliefs is inadmissible in Russia. Any forms of restriction of the rights of citizens on the specified signs are forbidden. Besides, criminal liability for religious discrimination is set by Art. 136 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
