Reimbursable Programs in our Area: ¡ Enhance®Fitness l Program Description: Developed by Senior Services (Seattle, WA) in partnership with the University of Washington and Group Health Cooperative in the mid-1990 s, Project Enhance offers state-of-the-art, community health promotion programs designed especially for older adults. Project Enhance provides Enhance. Fitness, a low-cost, adaptable exercise program offering levels that are challenging for active older adults and levels that are safe for those who are less fit and/or frail. l Insurance Companies: Group Health Cooperative, Silver & Fit

Group Fitness Class Requirements ¡ Silver. Sneakers® (Healthways) l A minimum of 2 Silver. Sneakers® Classic classes are required to become a Silver. Sneaker facility. Silver. Sneaker instructors must attend Silver. Sneakers® Classic program training, plus the program of their choice (listed below), have a Degree or a National Certification in Personal Training, Group Fitness or Nursing and be CPR/AED/First Aid trained l Programs include: ¡ Silver. Sneakers® Classic ¡ Silver. Sneakers® Circuit ¡ Silver. Sneakers® Yoga ¡ Silver. Sneakers® Splash ¡ Silver. Sneakers® Cardio
Group Fitness Class Requirements ¡ Silver & Fit l Group Fitness Classes are not required to become a Silver & Fit partner, however, if you offer at least 2 of the programs (listed below) as part of your normal membership, you can become a Silver & Fit Full Facility instead of Basic, which gives you 2 additional compensation visits per month per member l Silver & Fit Full Facilities must provide 2 classes per week of: ¡ Silver&Fit Signature Classes (Explore, Experience, Excel) ¡ Zumba Gold ¡ Senior Yoga ¡ Tai Chi ¡ Aqua ¡ Fall Prevention ¡ Strength & Cardio Classes
Group Fitness Class Requirements ¡ Optum / At Your Best / UHC Fitness Reimbursement l ¡ At Your Best l ¡ Group Fitness Classes are not required to become a partner with United Healthcare Reimburses 50% of your membership rate (up to $20/month) if the member visits at least 4 x/month UHC Fitness Reimbursement l Sends a $20 check to the member if they visit 12 x’s per month

No other amenities are required to offer this program l Program Requirements: ¡ Sign a license agreement ¡ Complete the Site Registration Forms ¡ Pay the membership fee and any additional fees for products selected ¡ Work with Enhance to coordinate Instructor training date, time and location

Sneakers® – Pro’s l l l ¡ Largest network of participants Largest marketing reach to eligible participants Facilities are assigned a “coach” to help with trouble-shooting, training and implementation Website is easy to navigate forms, reporting for compensation and eligibility verification Silver. Sneakers (Healthways) provides facilities with start-up equipment (chairs, resistance bands, dumbbells and pilates balls), plus $250/year in funds for additional equipment Silver. Sneakers® – Con’s l l Potential revenue loss from seniors who are already paying over $30/month for your programs Instructor training requirements are much higher compared to other reimbursable programs
Pro’s & Con’s ¡ Silver & Fit – Pro’s l l ¡ No start-up costs Simple contract, easy to get started Silver & Fit – Con’s l l Large network of eligible participants, but mostly from the east coast Facilities are “on their own” once the paper work is finalized Silver & Fit have partnered with certain group fitness class products and will not recognize similar competitor products (Les Mills versus Mossa; Zumba versus Jazzercise) to become eligible for the Silver & Fit Full Program Under some insurance plans, facility must collect an annual Silver & Fit membership fee
How to Win with Reimbursable Senior Fitness Programs ¡ Use the utilization reports l Track the participant numbers and contact those who signed up but aren’t visiting or those who are only visiting a couple times per month. Invite them to a social event or offer them a free consultation with one of your fitness professionals l Hold a gift card drawing each month for participants who scanned in at least 10 times the previous month l Communicate with the front desk regarding the importance of the initial scan during registration to get them in the system and the importance of the visit scan moving forward
How to Win with Reimbursable Senior Fitness Programs ¡ Give them something else to buy: l It isn’t just about the $3 per visit that you gain from having these members, but also about the money collected during their visit: ¡ Towel Service ¡ Coffee & Café Items ¡ Drop-in programs such as Bridge, Bingo, Line Dancing, Tai Chi ¡ Senior Trips ¡ Senior Lunches ¡ Kid Activities for Grandchildren ¡ Pro Shop Items (Silver. Sneaker shirts, their own resistance band or pilates balls, water bottles, etc. )
How to Win with Reimbursable Senior Fitness Programs ¡ Hold social events l l Have a guest speaker to discuss other programs you provide or community based volunteer opportunities in your area l Don’t incur a huge expense…make it a potluck l ¡ Scan them in for these events Have prizes and give-aways (whatever isn’t selling in your proshop) Program classes during non-peak times on your group fitness schedule l Schedule in late morning or early afternoon l Be prepared for them to arrive early. Have a social area outside your group fitness room
How to Win with Reimbursable Senior Fitness Programs ¡ Let’s Talk Retention: l Keep it clean l Provide excellent customer service l Hire only the best instructors l Get a good stereo and microphone l Make sure there is enough parking available l Keep your equipment serviceable and up to date l Stay current with the fitness trends (not the fads)
