Mission The Corps of Cadets will conduct Recognition Day activities for the class of 2018 on April 11 th, 2015 from 0530 to 1700 on The Citadel campus and Marion Square. The objective is to successfully finish up the 4 th Class System.
Execution Commander’s Intent: To provide a rewarding and challenging day; to instill pride in achievement and a sense of camaraderie within the 4 th classmen through a SAFE and meaningful Recognition Day process. Heat Injuries • Knobs with prior heat injuries must be identified with a PT belt slung diagonally across the body
Heat Injuries • Heat exhaustion: This condition often occurs when people exercise (work or play) in a hot, humid place where body fluids are lost through sweating, causing dehydration and overheating of the body. The person's temperature may be elevated, but not above 104 F (40 C). • Heat exhaustion symptoms – – – Often pale with cool, moist skin Sweating profusely Muscle cramps or pains Feels faint or dizzy May complain of headache, weakness, thirst, and nausea Core (rectal) temperature elevated-usually more than 100 F (37. 7 C) and the pulse rate increased
Heat Injuries • Heat stroke: Heat stroke, also referred to as a “heatstroke” or “sun stroke, ” is a life-threatening medical condition. The person's cooling system, which is controlled by the brain, stops working and the internal body temperature rises to the point at which brain damage or damage to other internal organs may result (temperature may reach 105 F or greater [40. 5 C or greater]). • Heat stroke symptoms – Unconscious or has a markedly abnormal mental status (dizziness, confusion, hallucinations, or coma) – Flushed, hot, and dry skin (although it may be moist initially from previous sweating or from attempts to cool the person with water) – May have slightly elevated blood pressure at first that falls later – May be hyperventilating – Rectal (core) temperature of 105 F (40. 5 C) or more

Friday Night/Saturday Morning • All 4 C lock their doors after 2200 – General Leave ends at 2200 • Only COs, HA, 1 SGTs, SGMs will monitor and interact with 4 C. • On Saturday Morning, NO UC on 4 th Division. • NO PHOTOs or VIDEOs inside of the Barracks on Friday.
Phase 1: Procedures [1 of 3] • Current Leadership(COs, XOs, Athletic Officers, 1 SGTs, SGMs) will lead PT on Saturday morning. Current 2 Clerks will be there as well. • Cadre Platoon Leader and Cadre Platoon Sergeant will also lead Stationary PT as well. • NO REPLACEMENT! • Cadets with 4 C Major offenses will not participate Rec Day events! • 1 Primarily Trainer per each company. (will wear two PT Belt across) • PT supervised by Company, Battalion, Regimental Athletic Officers, and Command Teams. • CO, 1 Clerk with Guidon- front of formation • XO, 1 SGT, a Clerk, Athletic Officer at rear of formation • Uniform - Summer PT’s, reflective (PT) belts, and long white socks. • 4 C will NOT have Camelbacks • Emergency water near Sports Medicine and on JOD/OD cart.
Phase 1: Company PT [2 of 3] Authorized Exercises in extended platoon formation: • Side straddle hops • Push-ups [wide, regular, and narrow grips] • Lunges/squats • Crunches • Sit-ups/supine bicycle [individual, partnered, and group] • Flutter kicks • High knees • Mountain climbers Each exercise must be conducted during the allotted time, with a maximum of 20 repetitions. Exercises can be repeated. All exercises will be monitored by the company athletic officer NO SATELITES, SPRINTS, OR RELAYS Inside and outside of the barracks

Phase 2: Procedures [3 of 3] • March back to the Battalion – no running or sprinting. • Allow Knobs to hydrate. • Preparation for “The Gauntlet” • 4 C will drop their covers, fill camelbacks, make head calls • NO ACTIVITY (PT, DRIVING STAIRS, SWEEP DETAILS, ETC) • Commanders, 1 SGTs. - monitor movements are being performed. • Extra time will be used for hydration purposes. • Battalion Operations Officers will ensure that this period is executed correctly.
Phase 3: “The Gauntlet” [1 of 5] 1030 -1150 - “The Gauntlet” • 1012 - First Call for “The Gauntlet” • 1015 - Formation for “The Gauntlet” • 1020 - Movement to designated are for “The Gauntlet” (Will be notified by Regimental Operation Officer) • 1030 - Commence “The Gauntlet” • 1150 - “The Gauntlet ends”
Phase 3: Procedures [2 of 5] • Double time Movements – NOT SPRINTING (formation must stay together) • Rotate stations every 8 minutes. • Rotations designated by an air horn. Time clocks will be posted at both locations to allow time checks. • Cadet leadership is encouraged to support 4 C and participate in the event, but will not direct 4 C through events.

Phase 3: Procedures [5 of 5 ] • Two designated (current, rising) athletic officers that will explain each stations and ensure that the companies moves to and from events in a timely manner. • Consequences for 1 -on-1 PT and satellites – Send the UC back to their barrack. (Regt/BN Athletic Officers) • One cadet to take photos per CO. • Do not take photos or videos of treatment of medical patients - HIPPA
4 C Leaders • Knob leaders 2 -3 knob leaders for each station. • A. O. s will identify the knob leaders • Athletic officers will brief and train knob leaders before Recognition Day. • COs, 1 SGTs will supervise ensuring
Station 1 - Tire flips (WLI, Parade) • 3 tires each station • 4 knobs will flip the tire 25 meters then preform 20 decline pushups with their feet on the tire. • Lift with a flat back to avoid lower back injuries
Station 2 - Wheelbarrows, buddy & fireman carry (WLI, Parade) • Knobs will rotate with their partners 25 m carries: wheelbarrows, buddy carry, fireman carry. • repeat through the full duration of the station.
Station 3 - 60 yard Shuttle sprint (WLI, Parade) • 6 shuttle sprints (5 -10 -15 meter sprints) • no extra calisthenics in between.
Station 4 - 150 workout (Parade) • Knob Leaders will lead the following exercises for the knob class to complete together. • 10 bodybuilders, 20 lunges each leg 30 pushups, 40 squats, 50 Side Straddle Hop. • Repeat in descending order
Station 5 - Crawl station (WLI, Parade) • Knobs will perform as many 25 m crawls as they can in 8 minutes. • Bear crawls, crab walks, seal crawls, low crawls, plank walks
Station 6 - Log PT (WLI, Parade) • Knobs will be distributed evenly among 3 logs by the 4 C leader • Approved lifts: chest press, bicep curls, sit ups, ground to waist lifts • Perform with proper lifting technique, flat backs. No fast jerky movements.
Station 7 - Litter carriers (Parade) • 4 litters at each station • four knobs to a where they will carry one cadet 25 meters and back. . • Litters should be carried in a safe manor without wobbling to avoid injuries and falls.
Station 8 - Sand bag barrier build (Back Up Station) • Knobs will build a barrier on the opposite side of the station • knobs will then move the sand bags back and construct a semi-circular machine gun nest. • NOTE: A bunker of some sort must be built prior to moving the sandbags to the opposite location.
Station 9 - The L drill (WLI, Parade) • 5 L drill agility drills set up at each station • Knobs will sprint through the specific route of the agility drill then jog back
Station 10 - Team pt (WLI, Parade) • Knobs will lock arms standing shoulder to shoulder and perform lunges together 25 meters. • groups of 4 and conduct 10 pushups together in a square formation • aim for 2 sets total in the 8 minutes • Proper technique for lunge to avoid knee injuries.

Station 11 - Med ball throws (WLI, Parade) • 10 -12 med balls • Med ball Partner passes: chest pass, standing rotational twists, med ball slams, rotational throws and sit up throws. • Exercises will be rotated • Keep passes controlled and avoid bunching up to minimize risk of injury.
Station 12 - Prowler relays (WLI, Parade) • 3 prowlers; carrying 90 pounds 70 pounds and 50 pounds. • Knobs will push the prowler 25 m and jog to the back of the line.
Station 13 - Ammo can PT (WLI, Parade) • Ammo Cans • 15 -20 cans per station • 4 c cadets will perform four main workouts • overhead press, outward press/ or holding, squat, Lunges • cadets who don't have Ammo cans will mirror other cadets with Ammo cans
Phase 4: Knob Recognition • 1150 - Form for Victory Lap and return to respective BNs upon completion of the run • 1200 - Class Set • 1210 - “Home Sweet Home” bag-piped over PA system • 1215 - Address by Regimental Commander • 1220 - 4 th Class System ends • 1220 -1230 - Knob Recognition • 1230 -1400 - Regimental Cookout • 1400 -1440 - Personal Hygiene Time • Order for run – 5 BN-4 BN-3 BN-2 BN-1 BN

Victory Lap - RPM • Two guards assigned to front sally port • 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd , and 5 th BN guard teams - REAR Sally Port for Sports Medicine – 4 th BN guards will open the gates Nearest Law Barracks (3 rd BN) • Front Gates locked once COs inside – NO “BEACH” – Regt. Inclement Weather Plan • Rain - The Gauntlet will continue. • Lightning – Gauntlet stops and move into BNs. – No PT – No Make Up for lost time – As soon as Lightning stops, Gauntlet will begin from beginning.
Phase 4: Procedures The Victory Lap will be lead by the Regt. Co. AIRBORNE SHUFFLE Gates - lock up as last company has entered. BN Ops Officers - report, via radios, when all of their companies have finished their class sets. • The Regt. CO will begin his address once all companies have finished their class sets. He will be notified by Regimental Ops. • •
Phase 4: Contingency Plan • P. A. system needs to be checked on the morning of Rec Day • Operations Officers will report any failures with the P. A. system in their BN. • In case of P. A. failure, – Same procedures as Oath Ceremony – 4 C will form up and march out to their parade spots on Summerall Field.
Phase 5: March to Marion Square 1500 -1800 - March to Marion Square (uniform Dress Whites) • 1435 - First Call for march to Marion Square • 1437 - Steele • 1440 - Assembly and march to start point (Lesesne Gate) • 1500 - March off to Marion Square. Led by Current Commanders. Rising 1 SGTs in the rear. • 1530 - “Oath Renewal on The Citadel Green” • 1600 - March back to campus Led by New Commanders Route • Straight on Moultrie St. • Right on King Street to Marion Square Order Of March • Regimental Commander • Regimental Color Guard • 5 Military Service Colors • 1 st Bn. • Band Detachment • 2 nd Bn • 3 rd Bn • 4 th Bn • 5 th Bn
Transportation • 4 safety vans present, with first responder cadets and athletic trainers(2 per 2 vans). • 11 Rising Commanders per each Van. Accountability will be taken at the Marion Square by Rising Regimental Ops. • All vans will leave at 1400. All rising COs report to 2 BN Pad NLT 1350. • 4 vans will come back to The Citadel at 2 BN Pad. 2 out of 4 vans will take any injured or 4 C that has problems with marching. • Other 2 vans will be at rear of PB.
Phase 5: Procedures • Rising Ops. Officers will march to and from Marion square to monitor the Knobs in case of emergencies. • Current Regt. Ops. will help set up Marion square and ensure that the march over is conducted properly. • No transportation provided for Current COs.
Pre Preparation for Marion Square • Walkthrough for March to the Marion Square on April 8 th, 2015 at 1500 with Col. Barton. – Current and Rising Regt. Ops – Current and Rising Regt. Provost • Rising and Current COs meet with Regt. Ops on April 10 th, 2015 to go over March to the Marion Square with Col. Barton. The Time will be on Training Schedule

Marion Square Inclement Weather Plan • In the event of heavy rain or lightening, the Marion square ceremony will be moved to Mc. Alister Field House. • 4 C will be march as 4 man front in platoon by companies from Barracks to outside of Mc. Alister Field House. • Guidons (Only Company) • Dress Rehearsal with 4 C after Commandant’s Address to 4 C on March 31 st. • Battalion Operation Officers will know which routes, which doors to go through.
