Overview • Windows desktops with LINUX or Windows servers. • Where LINUX desktop needed prefer 2 nd PC. • Numbers of laptops rising. In general not replacing desktop. Pool of laptops for loan. HEP Sysman. April 2003 Gareth Smith RAL PPD

Departmental Unix Systems. • We did have: – Two LINUX servers (Red. Hat 6. 1, 6. 2) and user disk served by HP-UX server linked by FDDI. • We now have: – No FDDI. – Three Linux servers all running RH 7. 3, one of which has a RAID user disk. • As before, backups to the datastore. • LINUX/Apache web server with content on AFS. GRID systems • Compusys rack, will form basis of our contribution to Southern Tier 2. • Originally: 7 dual 1. 4 GHz Pentiums, plus 0. 8 TB disk with a server node. • Compute nodes in the grid (Grid. PP & EDG). RH 6. 2. • Recently added 12 dual 2. 4 GHz Xeon nodes. (Will bring in with RH 7. 3) HEP Sysman. April 2003 Gareth Smith RAL PPD

Windows • Desktops still NT 4, produced using cloning methods. Looking at XP. • Laptops Windows 2000. • Changes to Windows Servers: In general move to Windows 2000 servers (still in NT 4 domain). • New HP/Compaq Proliant ML 350 server with 450 GB Raid (4*150 GB disks) as new filestore, will turn off Alpha/NT 4 file server. • New backup device, ADIC Scalar 24 with SDLT 320 drive. Windows Servers continued • Xerox ‘Docushare’ server updated. New version of software running on upgraded hardware (replaced motherboard, CPU, memory). • HP/Compaq Proliant ML 350 dual cpu, repacement Citrix server. HEP Sysman. April 2003 Gareth Smith RAL PPD
