Quinn River Baptist Fellowship www. qrbf. org Thank you for your interest in our web distributed notes from our weekly bible studies. Some content had to be removed from these slides for copyright purposes, and thus the slides by themselves can be difficult to follow without the original animation sequences, and accompanying notes from the actual study, but we pray that you will still find them useful. You may send any questions to myself at pastorjerry@qrbf. org and I will try and get answers back to you in a timely manner. You may re-use these slides in your own bible studies, both personal and public, and arrangements can be made for accompanying notes and original slide presentations once copyright issues have been resolved. May God bless your effort, and may you grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Pastor Jerry Eyers
The Book of Revelation Our Presuppositions: • God means what He says and says what He means • The Bible is an integrated whole. Every detail is there by design (Mt 5: 17, 18) • Nothing is trivial: All things for our learning (Rom 15: 4) • God is His own interpreter (Isaiah 28: 9, 10) • Everything is explained elsewhere in the scriptures (Hos 12: 10) Contains a divinely inspired outline (Chapter 1: 19) Rev 1: 19 Write things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter; - Write things which you have seen (vision of chapter 1) - Write things which are (seven letters to seven churches, chapters 2 -3) - Write things which shall be after these things (these things being the things “which are” that were just mentioned, namely the churches, chapters 4 -22)
Evidence for Supernatural Design by the Holy Spirit Paul wrote 13 letters that he signed. 3 were doubles (first and second – whatever) 3 were to pastors (Timothy, Titus, Philemon) That means Paul wrote 7 churches… Hmm… I wonder if themes of the seven churches Paul wrote somehow line up with themes of the seven churches Jesus wrote to… Ephesians Ephesus Philippians Smyrna Corinthians Pergamos Galatians Thyatira Romans Sardis Thessalonians Philadelphia Colossians Laodicea Love, Fellowship (We are his poetry) Joy through suffering (That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; ) Worldliness (too much world in Corinth, not enough Corinth in the world) Keeping the Law (religious externalism) Remnant and Orthodoxy (Paul spends three chapters on it) The Rapture (the rapture of living, dead in Christ, the antichrist, etc. ) The Lord is our provider (stop looking to the world, look to Him)

After the Persians took over Babylonia in 539 B. C. , they discouraged the continuation of the mystery religions of Babylon. As a result, the Babylonian cultists moved to Pergamum (or Pergamos) where one of the seven churches of Asia Minor was later located. The chief priests of the Babylonian cult honored the fish god by wearing crowns in the shape of a fish head. The crowns bore the words, “Keeper of the Bridge. ” This was symbolic of the “bridge” between man and Satan. The Roman Emperors adopted the Latin title Pontifex Maximus, which means “Major Keeper of the Bridge. ” Later the bishop of Rome adopted the same title. The pope today is called “pontiff, ” which is short for pontifex. Even today the term Pontifex Maximus can be found throughout the Vatican and numerous cathedrals in Rome.
Rev 2: 18 And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; Rev 2: 19 I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. Rev 2: 20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. Rev 2: 21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Rev 2: 22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. Rev 2: 23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. Rev 2: 24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. Rev 2: 25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come. Rev 2: 26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: Rev 2: 27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. Rev 2: 28 And I will give him the morning star. Rev 2: 29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
In 378 A. D. , Damasus, the bishop of Rome, took on the office of Pontifex Maximus, (high priest) of the Babylonian religion, which had previously been the prerogative of the Roman emperor, and began the combining of the “Christian” church with pagan religion – the result of which has never been subsequently separated. By 590 A. D. , the integration was complete. The ceremonies, rites, titles, vestments, celibate priests, restriction of diets, Mariolatry, image and crucifix worship, veneration of saints, adoration of the host, papal infallibility, transubstantiation, etc. all come from the Babylonian idolatry, in some cases with the names changed slightly to thinly veneered Christian nomenclature. I Kings 21 – Jezebel and the Inquisition The Inquisition Called “The Holy Office, ” the Inquisition was instituted by Pope Innocent III and was perfected by Pope Gregory IX. Under it everyone was required to inform against heretics. Anyone suspect was liable to torture, without knowing the name of his accuser. The proceedings were secret. The Inquisitor pronounced sentence and victim was turned over to civil authorities to be imprisoned for life or to be burned. The victim’s property was confiscated and divided between the church and the state. The Inquisition claimed vast multitudes of victims in Spain, Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands and did its most deadly work against the Albigenses. The Albigenses, or Carthari, in southern France, northern Spain and northern Italy preached against the immoralities of the priesthood, worship of saints and images, completely rejected the clergy and their claims, opposed the claims of the Church of Rome, made great use of the Scriptures, and lived self-denying lives with a great zeal for moral purity. By 1167 they embraced a majority of the population of southern France and were very numerous in northern Italy. In 1208 Pope Innocent III ordered a crusade in which the bloody war of extermination utterly wiped out town after town, the inhabitants murdered without discrimination, until all of the Albigenses were utterly wiped out.

Rev 3: 1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Rev 3: 2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. Rev 3: 3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. Rev 3: 4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. Rev 3: 5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
