• Sandy Crocker – a Dentist Searching Ireland For Mystery Woman • A dentist from Canada has travelled back to Ireland to find a girl he met for two minutes last summer. Sandy Crocker, 34, was eating breakfast with his brother in a cafe in Ennistymon, an Irish tourist town, in July 2011. That’s where he saw a “striking” lady at another table. • He didn’t want to interrupt her eating so he waited until she was leaving to ask her for directions. Crocker told the newspaper he was leaving Ireland the next day so he didn’t think of following the mystery woman – until he got home and couldn’t get her out of his mind. • “My breath was taken away… She was gentle, graceful, the kind of girl who is a dream. ” Crocker describes the dream woman as in her mid 20 s with freckles and reddish-brown hair. He admits it’s a “shot in the dark” and that the chances she might be married are 50/50. • U. K. bookmakers believe 4/5 chances that the woman is already married and 50/1 probability on Crocker actually marrying her. • Crocker is in County Clare this week, where he first spotted the woman, and he will stay there a month looking for her, and then he plans to go to Cork and Belfast, and all the towns around.
• 82 -year-old Austrian woman arrests bank robber • • An Austrian bank robber was arrested after a battle with a 82 -yearold woman. Pensioner Hertha Wallecker attacked the masked robber after he broke into a bank holding a handgun and claiming to have a bomb. The pensioner first struck him with her handbag, and then tried to pull his balaclava helmet off despite the robber threatening to shoot her. "That's the bank's money, if you want money get a job you lazy devil, " she shouted at him as they argued. As the criminal tried to stuff money into a bag Mrs Wallecker managed to pull off his mask in full view of the bank's security cameras. Then she pulled at the money bag, spilling cash all over the floor. At this point the robber decided he had enough and ran to a getaway car waiting outside the bank. But with the evidence from the cameras and fingerprints police later arrested a 52 -year-old man. • Mrs Wallecker told the press later: "I get 800 euros a month as a pension, and I had to work really hard to have the right to do that. When I hear about anybody stealing anything it just makes me really angry. • I would do it again but my nephew told me it was mad and I could have been shot".
• Firefighter Saves Woman From Burning Building • A Philadelphia firefighter risked his own life rescuing a woman from a burning building, but his heroics extended far beyond that moment. When a warehouse fire started, Fran Cheney was coming home from his shift and before the firefighting team arrived on the scene to put it out, he was already in the building. Cheney battled his way to the second floor in order to save Mary Jackson, who was choking from smoke inhalation. He saw it was difficult for her to breathe, so he removed his own face mask and put it over head before rushing her out. • “If I was worried about dying, I wouldn’t be here, and neither would any of these guys that I work with. That’s what we do. That’s who we are. ” • But is it also a firefighter’s job to donate money to fire victims? If saving Jackson’s life wasn’t enough, Cheney also gave $500, the money he made working overtime, to her family so they can “get back on their feet. ” • However, now he’s under investigation by his bosses. A fire department official arrived at Cheney’s hospital bed to accuse him of taking too much risk in saving Jackson. Now a full investigation is going on. • But if he had this chance, Cheney said he would do it all over again.
• Somalian opens Mogadishu's first dry cleaners • A businessman has opened a dry cleaners in Somalia's capital - the city's only one, and its first since the start of the civil war more than 20 years go. Mohamed Sheik decided to start it when he returned home recently to Mogadishu after years abroad. He says the city's security had improved in the last 10 months. • Somalia has had no effective central government since 1991 due to a nonstop war. But since rebels were forced from Mogadishu, the city is coming back to life. • Mr Sheik, who has a business degree from a university in Malaysia, was working in Dubai when he came upon the idea. "Setting up a laundry in Mogadishu was really difficult. The equipment is expensive, and I had to order it from Dubai, the US and Italy, " Mr Sheik said. Moreover, Mogadishu is by no means safe. Suicide and other attacks are common. Mr Sheik hires one guard at night and two during the day. He says people cannot quite believe their eyes when they see his sign. Mr Sheik knows that he will face many challenges with his business in a country that has been at war for most of his life. "It's very hard to find people in Mogadishu who know about dry cleaning. I found one man who used to work in a dry cleaners in the city more than 20 years ago, but the equipment he used was completely different. " Mr Sheik says he will give some of his profits to a school for the blind and deaf in Mogadishu.
