*Until about 150 years ago, the air was clean and pure – perfect for people and animals to breathe.
Then people started building factories, which emited harmful gases into the air. Later on they started driving cars, adding more to the problem.
* *Air pollution causes cancer. *Many cities around the world have air filled with a pollution called ‘smog’. *This is so strong in some places that the air which should be blue, actually looks brown with the pollution.
*The air inside a building is nearly always more polluted than the air outside. *For example, . Invisible, tasteless, odorless, radioactive radon gas may be the biggest potential killer among environmental hazard after tobacco smoke.
Schematic drawing, causes and effects of air pollution: (1) greenhouse effect, (2) particulate contamination, (3) increased UV radiation, (4) acid rain, (5) increased ground level ozone concentration, (6) increased levels of nitrogen oxides.
The Greenhouse Effect
Global Warming
Thinning of Upper OZone Layer

Indoor Air Pollution
* *On March 17, 1992, in Mexico City, all children under the age of 14 could not go to school because of air pollution. This does not often happen, but being exposed to air pollution every day can make people have many health problems. Children, elderly people, and people with allergies especially, can have a lot of problems because of air pollution. Studies from the University of Birmingham showed that deaths because of pneumonia and air pollution from motor vehicles like cars are related. The World Health Organization said that 2. 4 million people died because of direct problems of air
* *Factory owners and businessmen must provide powerful filters to reduce smoke, dust and dangerous gases. *We should use public transport instead of driving your car. *Ride your bike. *We should use less aerosols. *
