Preparing Future Faculty in Engineering & Applied Science CEAS PFF program / general university PFF program: University PFF: • General program—all UC grad students • Explores a variety of teaching venues • Mentoring— 40 hours • Earn certificate + credit hours Engineering & Applied Science PFF: • For CEAS (and science) students exclusively • Mentors are typically engineering, applied science & computer science professors • Mentoring— 15+ hours • Earn credit hours on transcript COMBINED PROGRAM: Students can complete the CEAS program and then earn the university certificate by leading a university PFF seminar (reading group) and completing additional hours of mentored teaching. See Prof. Purdy for details. Email: Dr. Carla Purdy, carla. purdy@uc. edu; Web: http: //secs. ceas. uc. edu/~pffp/
Preparing Future Faculty in Engineering & Applied Science Participant comments (hiring process): I’m glad I picked up these tips from the PFF program: • include my personal teaching philosophy with my application • create a teaching portfolio, start early! • letters of recommendation are very important • research the institution you are applying to, including small details like selectivity of admissions Email: Dr. Carla Purdy, carla. purdy@uc. edu; Web: http: //secs. ceas. uc. edu/~pffp/
