Hamilton’s overall source was an ad for an RCA Whirlpool refrigerator/freezer (not this ad, but one like it).

A photo Hamilton clipped from Esquire magazine of Vikki “The Back” Dougan, an American pin-up model of the 1950s, inspired the sexualized image of the woman in the left half of his painting. This is not the exact photo that Hamilton clipped, but it is similar.
