LADY DIANA Was born in 1961. She was the first wife of Prince Charles, Princess of Wales and played a huge role in the life of the UK She took a strong interest in many charities and important causes. She highlighted the suffering of the homeless, lepers and AIDS victims. She was called the “People’s Princess". To many, she was simply the “Queen of Hearts. ” She hit newspaper headlines around the world, but the biggest one was for her death at the age of 36.
WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE Was a famous English poet and playwright. William Shakespeare was born in 1564 in a small English city Stratford-upon-Avon. William Shakespeare is also considered to be the father of sonnets. All in all he wrote more than 37 plays, 154 sonnets, two long poems and a great number of other poems. The main genres of Shakespeare’s works were tragedies and comedies. It’s remarkable that Shakespeare’s plays were staged in London in 1952, which means that he gained fame already in his 30 s. Although a real acknowledgement of his works and high approval took place only in the 19 th century. Thousands of theatres stage his plays throughout the world and lots of film companies shoot new versions of already known Shakespeare stories.
OSCAR FINGAL O'FLAHERTY WILLS WILDE Was born on 16 October, 1854. He was an Irish poet, writer and essayist. One of the most famous playwrights of the late Victorian period, a great celebrity of his time. Best known for his plays, full of paradoxes, winged phrases and aphorisms.
CHARLES ROBERT DARWIN Was born on February 12, 1809 in Shrewsbury, England. His father, Robert Darwin, was a financier and a successful physician, so the family lived very well. Became the first scientist who was able to explain theory that all living organisms share common ancestors. Discoveries made by Darwin, became the basis of the synthetic theory of evolution in its modern form. On his ideas the modern biology is based. He made a significant contribution to the development of genetics.
ISAAC NEWTON Was an English mathematician, engineer, astronomer and physicist, founder of classical mechanics, member and than the President of the Royal society of London. He was one of the founders of modern physics, formulated the basic laws of mechanics. He also discovered the law of universal gravitation, explained the motion of planets around the Sun and the moon around the Earth.
JAMES COOK Was born on October 27, 1728 in the village of Marton, County Yorkshire. At the age of 18 James became the cadet. The first expedition of James Cook was the journey from London to Newcastle. All his spare time Cook spent on selfeducation: he studied maps, astronomy, geography and mathematics. In 1755 he began to serve in the Royal Navy as a sailor, but he continued to produce maps. For his successful work he was appointed the captain of the ship "Newfoundland
