PUT put - to express or state something in a particular way: As M. Mc. Luhan puts it. . . put smth aside - to ignore something, usually a feeling or difference of opinion put smth forward - to suggest something for discussionto put forward a suggestion put smth together - prepare something by fitting or collecting parts together put up smth - to suggest an idea, etc. for other people to discuss: What about putting up this proposal? put up smb - to suggest somebody as a candidate for a position: We want to put you up for the club president. put up with somebody/something - to accept somebody/something that is annoying, unpleasant, etc. without complaining: I'm not going to put up with this mess any longer.
GET get - to receive, obtain something: What did you get for your birthday? Did you manage to get tickets for the concert? get ahead (of somebody) - to make progress (further than others have done): She wants to get ahead in her career. get around – to spread: News soon got around that he had resigned. get at smb: to keep criticizing somebody: He's always getting at me! get at something - to learn or find out something: The truth is sometimes difficult to get at. get back to something - to return to something: Could we get back to the question of funding?
GET get down - to make somebody feel sad or depressed: Don't let it get you down too much. get down to something - to begin to do something: Let's get down to business. get on/ get along – used to talk or ask about how well somebody is doing in a particular situation: How did you get on at the interview? get on / get along with somebody - to have a friendly relationship with somebody: We are getting along just fine together. get over something - to deal with or gain control of something: She can't get over her shyness.
Account account smb/smth + adjective/noun - to have an opinion about smb/smth: A person is accounted innocent until they are proved guilty. The event was accounted a success. account for smth - to give an explanation of something: How do you account for the show's success?
