Introduction - How to Create a Website • Proper guidance and information is very helpful • Creativity is the key to success • Proper tools help achieving your concepts

Step 1: Finding a Host • A web host provides you with the tools, space and support to create your web pages and email accounts • Hosting is the backbone of any website • It's where you go to build, maintain, and publish your web pages

Step 1: Finding a Host • Free hosts at ODU: – www. cs. odu. edu – www. lions. odu. edu • Outside hosts – www. freewebs. com – www. geocities. com – and many more. • Set up your own web server e. g. : you can download Apache – Buy your own server machine – Get your IP address

Advantages/Disadvantages – ODU Web Hosting • Advantages: - Free accounts for ODU students and faculty. - Easy access. - Freedom of Creativity. • Disadvantages: - Limited space - Account expires. - Required CS course - Account expires after graduation.

Step 2: Creating a Domain Name • Choosing a proper domain name – Make it short – Be search-engine friendly – Don’t use the words that sound the same but have different spellings ( for example the word to ( totwo-too and 2) – Avoid numbers and capital letters

Step 2: Creating a Domain Name • Purchasing and registering your Domain Name – At a web host – At a domain name registry – Example sites http: //www. networksolutions. com http: //smallbusiness. yahoo. com/d omains/

Step 3: Creating a Website • There are three options: 1 - Learn how to create a site yourself 2 - Hire a Web Designer to build your site 3 - Use a Site Builder tool

Step 4 : Publishing Your Files • Transfer your files from your computer onto your hosting. Such as( images, media, etc) • Use FTP to transfer your files.

Step 5 : Submiting Your Website to a Search Engine • Over 50% of all Internet traffic goes through search engines. • To list your website on search engines: - Use the right keywords. - Have a good content
