Annotation of a Patent Similar to an annotative written translation (you remember this, right?) In a patent an annotation is a concise description of the invention and some critical comments. Should be relatively short (about 400-500 words at most).

Patent Abstract The concise summary or gist of a patent. Includes only the most important and unique details. Should be short (10%-30% of a full copy) May be difficult to translate because it is hard to include the most important information.
