1 PAN AFRICAN MATERIALS INSTITUTE (PAMI) PAMI will use a systems-based interdisciplinary approach to 1 PAN AFRICAN MATERIALS INSTITUTE (PAMI) PAMI will use a systems-based interdisciplinary approach to bring together a Pan African and international team of scientists, engineers, industrialists, policymakers, and development stakeholders to engage in training and research activities in solar energy, health, water purification and affordable housing/infrastructure PAMI was launched on 3 rd November, 2015 Solar Energy • OLEDs • Organic solar cells • Perovskytes 3 Biomaterials Multi-Functional materials Outreach • Nanoparticles/drug delivery • Water purification • To industries • SUS Building infrastructure • Girls and Women • Bio. (leading to increment in bandwidth from 1 MB/s to 15 MB/s (Dec 2014/Jan 2015). • MILESTONE 4 Establishment of FRGs at launch of PAMI (3 Nov 2015). • NUC accreditation July, 2014.

5 Education, Research and Outreach • Pan African School of Materials (PASMAT 2015) trained 5 Education, Research and Outreach • Pan African School of Materials (PASMAT 2015) trained 147 people with 40 contact hours with PAMI in areas of Biomaterials, Energy Materials and Water purification materials. PAMI VALUE CHAIN PAMI Engine rooms FRG on Biomaterials focuses on cancer and cardiovascular PAMI VALUE CHAIN PAMI Engine rooms FRG on Biomaterials focuses on cancer and cardiovascular diseases detection and treatment, developing drug delivery strategies FRG on Multi Functional materials focuses on materials for water purification, sustainable building and infrastructure materials, new and advanced materials. FRG Energy FRG Bio FRG Multi F FRG on Energy and the Environment focuses on OLEDs, Organic solar cell fabrication and Perovskytes. These FRGs motivate the teaching and research in PAMI and are by themselves motivated by industry through the Industry Advisory Board and insights gained during outreach activities Teaching/Outreach

Moving PAMI from Good to Great! Contributions of the focused research groups Industries such Moving PAMI from Good to Great! Contributions of the focused research groups Industries such as AIG, SCC, Total, NHA have established relationships with PAMI. Af. DB, DTCA are in discussions with PAMI FRG Bio – 9 papers Each FRG has published papers in high-impact factor journals corresponding to 2/fresh Ph. D Total is motivating research in the area of Barite processing, AIG in factory management and metallurgy, SCC in multifunctional materials development. Industry – The Core FRG Multi F – 5 papers FRG Energy – 9 Papers
