House Bill 1244 - 07 Gifted students are a category of “Exceptional Children” and are protected by House Bill 1244 – 07 which mandated gifted education in Colorado

Advanced Learning Plan • Each identified gifted/talented student in DPS • Child’s strength area/s as noted in his/her identification – – – CSAP (Writing, Reading, Math, Science) DRA/EDL +2 grade levels above Raven’s Circle’s test Cog. AT (cognitive ability test) • Verbal • Quantitative • Non-Verbal

Critical points/questions: • Gifted children should have the opportunity to learn something new everyday. • Once students are identified, do we provide instruction to capitalize on their strengths? • What are the measurements for commensurate growth? • Are identified gifted students having their instructional needs met?
