Paintings by Vincent van Gogh and Gauguin present Yeromenko Yelyzaveta
Vincent van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh Was a major Post. Impressionist painter. He was a Dutch artist whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20 th-century art. His output includes portraits, self portraits, landscapes and still lifes of cypresses, wheat fields and sunflowers. Van Gogh drew as a child but did not paint until his late twenties; he completed many of his best -known works during the last two years of his life.
The Starry Night Painted in June, 1889, it depicts the view from the east-facing window of his asylum room at Saint-Rémy -de-Provence, just before sunrise, with the addition of an idealized village. It is Van Gogh's bestknown painting, and one of the most recognized monuments in the history of Western culture
Sunflowers The subject of two series of still life. The earlier series executed in Paris in 1887 depicts the flowers lying on the ground, while the second set executed a year later in Arles shows bouquets of sunflowers in a vase. In the artist's mind both sets were linked by the name of his friend Paul Gauguin, who acquired two of the Paris versions.
Cafe Terrace at Night Visitors still stand at the northeastern corner of the Place du Forum, where the artist set up his easel. He looked south towards the artificially lit terrace of the popular coffee house, as well as into the enforced darkness of the rue du Pale leading up to the building structure and, beyond this structure, the tower of a former church.
Paul Gauguin
Paul Gauguin’s art became popular after his death; partially from the efforts of art dealer Ambroise Vollard who organized exhibitions of his work late in his career. Many of his paintings were in the possession of Russian collector Sergei Shchukin as well as other important collections.
In addition to several other paintings that express highly individualistic mythology, he completed this painting in 1897 or 1898. Gauguin considered it a masterpiece and the grand culmination of his thought. He was in despair when he undertook the painting, mourning the tragic death of his favourite daughter. Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?
Spirit of the Dead Watching The subject of the painting was Gauguin's Tahitian vahine ("woman") Tehura, also called Tehamana, one night, according to Gauguin, was lying in fear when he arrived late home: "immobile, naked, lying face downward on the bed with the eyes inordinately large with fear. . . " The spirit she fears is personified by the old woman seated at left.
