P-08043 MALDI Sample Preparation Coating Device Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption - Ionization Mass Spectrometry (MALDI) is a process used to examine organic tissue structures and properties. Samples are coated with an organic solvent (currently by means of a reagent sprayer), extracting protein concentrations, while minimizing lateral diffusion, which are then imaged through a laser; the coating method is a crucial step which directly influences image quality and resolution. Further understanding for this thin film coating process will assist in designing a more homogenous and repeatable process. This project will focus on applying piezoelectric inkjet technology to the process, while integrating system diagnostics to control critical conditions such as diffusion and assure consistent results. Printer System: Epson R 280 Printer with CD printing technology Diagnostic System: 45 x Omano Microscope Camera with resolution capabilities of 8 microns; movement controlled by x-y translational stages Illumination system: 5 blue 5 -Watt LEDs for fluorescent GFP imaging attached to focusing arc; 6 1 -Watt LEDs for nonfluorescent imaging; movement controlled by x-y translational stages Environmental Chamber System: Heavy Duty Frame surrounded by see-through acrylic with access doors, and system controls; Temperature and Humidity is controlled.
