Our Ideal School by: Nastia Maksimkina

Our School Should Teach… • Independence • Manners & Respect • Responsibility & Accountability • Collaborative Working • Standards • Music & Arts (allow students to become culturally aware) • Basic skills for students to survive in the 21 st century • Encourage motivation

A Good School Is One That… • Fosters learning for ALL students • Enhances & encourages creativity • Allows lateral thinking for students & staff • Allows teachers to teach • Teachers & staff are respected by parents & students

A Successful Student Is Able to… • Be present at school (physically & mentally) • Succeed in the classroom & outside in the community • Communicate effectively • Participate in their environment (see it & see the possibilities to get involved) • “Entertain” themselves positively (ie, not get “bored”) • Continually work to obtain the best results for his/her abilities

An Effective Classroom Is One In Which… • All students are engaged • Ideas flow • Different leveled students are reached • Students are focused & ontask • Curriculum is being taught & related to the outside world

A Staff Member Is One Who… • Positive, helpful, friendly, noncritical • Supportive, available, nonthreatening • Is a team member as well as a leader • Participates rather than dictates • Understands the demands & daily routine of all positions

An Effective Teacher is One Who… • Facilitates integrity of the school (including standards of behavior, respect, dress, discipline, learning, community awareness) • Works well with others (gradelevel teams & clusters, parents, admin & students) • Has mastery of his/her core standards • Understands cross-grade level requirements & curriculum

In Summary… My vision is that Our School specializes in Communication Arts & Technology. We believe this will challenge students and provide a purpose for their learning.

What We Want… § Computer labs with up-to-date technology § A staff member whose sole-purpose is to support the technology of the school (curriculum & hardware) § Newspaper & literary magazine § Visual & performing arts productions/assemblies § Art Show § Music production § Performing Arts production § Science experiment week (ie, egg drop challenge) § Student involvement in the community (volunteering, service hours, etc)
