Oscar Wilde (16 October 1854 – 30 November 1900)
Birthplace and family He was born in Dublin in the family of a famous Irish surgeon - William Wilde and a poetess Jane Francesca Wilde. Jane was a successful writer and an Irish nationalist. Sir William was Ireland's leading ear and eye surgeon, and wrote books on archaeology and folklore.
