MESSAGES The Forum is taking place against a backdrop of the most severe economic crises of the post World War II world. The Conference will be rich in topics and issues that center on the future of the Euro. The Athens Agenda reflects the position, commitment and determination of the entire business community to implement an accelerated process that will eventually lead to economic development, social cohesion and prosperity in all the countries of the Mediterranean region. Mr Dimitris Daskalopoulos SEV Chairman The Mediterranean region is open to the world and to challenges brought by globalisation, especially in the framework of current recession and economic setback. All Mediterranean countries have to open new options towards renewed Mediterranean development policies, to the active participation of firms and societies in a mutually beneficial co -development and regional integration. Cooperation from both sides of the Mediterranean basin implies teamwork, coherence, planning, multilateral networking, a spirit of both north-south and south-south linkage. The Union for the Mediterranean, a project-oriented initiative, may become the new locomotive on which all stakeholders are called to embark.
