Attendance and Tardy Procedures Excused absences and late arrivals are: New Hours for 3 -5 th Grade 8: 20 -3: 05 p. m. Student illness Medical Appointment Death in immediate family Observance of a religious holiday or service when it is mandated for all members of a faith. ü School-sponsored event or activity previously approved ü ü If the student does not bring a note explaining his/her absence after the third day, the absence will remain unexcused. A doctor’s note is required for five cumulative days consecutive absences and at ten A students accumulating ten or more absences in a school year may result in the student repeating the grade.

Arrival and Pick up Freakfast is free for ALL students, make sure your child goes to line up no later than 8. 20 AM. The teachers will have picked up all classes by 8. 20, from 8. 25 Am to 8. 35 AM students will be working on different projects, any arrival from 8. 36 AM on will be marked as late.

School Year Assessments FCAT, Interim Assessments 1. 2. 3. 4. There are 3 tests the kids will be taking this year: FCAT(First and Last year) – Math and Reading. Students will also be taking interim assessments on August, January and May. The Interims tell the teacher how the student is doing. Cella for ESOL students only.

Let’s get ready for PARCC (The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers)is a 20 -state consortium working together to develop next-generation K-12 assessments in English and math. Visit: www. parcconline. org

School Uniforms-Dress Code Policy • • • School uniform is worn daily Red shirt Blue bottoms (Skirt and pants only) Boys must have shirts tucked in with a belt Closed toe-shoes (sneakers) and no wheels • Classroom shirts will be worn ONLY on Tuesdays, exception field trip days.

Mr. Hurtado’s students and their parents for buying 100% of class shirts. Way to go! There is another shirt that will be worn on Wednesdays, when you are ready, please send $10 to the teacher to get the other one.

Parent / Teacher Conferences Parent / Teacher conferences are always encouraged To meet with teacher send an email with your child for the teacher and the teacher will contact usually within 24 hours.

Field Trip/Volunteers If you would like to volunteer or go on fieldtrips with our class please fill out the form provided and return to your child’s teacher or apply directly on the parent portal

If you are a volunteer, use your parent ID.

Mathematics Expectations. A Sample of What Your Child Will Be Working on in 3 rd Grade • Multiplying and dividing up to 10 × 10 quickly and • accurately, including knowing the times tables from memory (from 0 -12) • Solving word problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division • Beginning to multiply numbers with more than one digit (e. g. , multiplying 9 × 80) • Understanding fractions and relating them to the familiar system of whole numbers (e. g. , recognizing that 3⁄1 and 3 are the same number)

Continuation…. • Measuring and estimating weights and liquid volumes, and solving word problems involving these quantities • Reasoning about shapes (e. g. , all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares) • Finding areas of shapes, and relating area to multiplication (e. g. , why is the number of square feet for a 9 -foot by 7 -foot room given by the product 9 × 7? )

Classroom Supplies Make sure to check your child’s book bag every day, sometimes they carry unnecessary items in. They need: 1 Composition notebook for Science, another one for Social Studies and VERY IMPORTANT a Graph Notebook for Math. Pencils (Led/mechanical pencils makes them waste time while getting ready to start) Pencil sharpener, Ruler, Glue, crayons.
