GENERAL • WHEN THE EARTHQUAKE STRUCK ON 26 JAN 01 THE FORMATION IN AHMEDABAD GENERAL • WHEN THE EARTHQUAKE STRUCK ON 26 JAN 01 THE FORMATION IN AHMEDABAD WAS OUT ON EXERCISE, 400 KM AWAY. HOWEVER, THE BRIGADE AT BHUJ WAS IN LOCATION. • IMMEDIATELY ON GETTING INFORMATION, DISASTER MANAGEMENT CELLS WERE ESTABLISHED AT ARMY HQ (DGMO), HQ SOUTHERN COMMAND, AHEMADABAD AND BHUJ AND COMMUNICATION ESTABLISHED ON INMARSAT. • IMMEDIATE AID WAS PROVIDED BY TROOPS IN LOCATION AT AHMEDABAD, BHUJ, JAMNAGAR, DHARANDHARA AND GANDHIDHAM AND TROOPS WERE ORDERED TO MOVE FROM VADODRA. • EXERCISE WAS CALLED OFF AND TROOPS WERE WARNED TO MOVE FROM BHATINDA, PUNE, JODHPUR, JAISALMER, NASIRABAD & GWALIOR. • COMMAND CONTROL ARRANGEMENTS WERE PUT IN PLACE. • TYPE OF TROOPS, EQUIPMENT AND OTHER AID ITEMS WERE IDENTIFIED AND ORDERS FOR MOVE ISSUED. • AIR LIFT REQUIREMENT WAS PROJECTED TO THE AIR FORCE OPS ROOM AT AIR HQ. • INDUCTION OF TROOPS AND EQUIPMENT COMMENCED ON 26 JAN 01 ITSELF.
