ONTARIO Origin of the Name The word Ontario comes from the Iroquois word “kanadario” meaning “sparkling” water.
ONTARIO History Ontario was first inhabited by the Algonquian and Iroquoian speaking. In 1610, Henry Hudson become first Europeans to set foot in Ontario. By 1774, the British controlled all Southern Ontario.
ONTARIO Interesting Facts Ontario produces 40% of all the goods that are made in Canada. Ontario is home to almost 12 millions people, about 1/3 of Canada’s population. The capital of Ontario is Toronto. It is also the largest city in Canada with 4. 6 millions people.
