Ocean Class AGOR – Program History • Feb 2003: SECNAV Report to Congress included: four new Ocean Class Ships over 10 -year period and stated Ocean Class AGOR hull selection studies would begin in FY 04 and construction started in FY 06. • Oct 2003: CNR requested PEO Ships assistance to resolve Ocean Class design issues and initiate acquisition planning. • Fall 2004: PMS 325 outlined findings of hull studies to ONR. Results indicated that the monohull is the most capable and affordable platform to meet SMR requirements. • Feb 2005: UNOLS was tasked to provide ONR with a recommendation for the desired hull type. Navy worked with UNOLS to further refine the hull variants and additional Navy SMRs. UNOLS completed hull variant study and briefed ONR that their recommendation was for a monohull. • Dec 2005: Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2006 included $2 M RDT&E for the design of the Ocean Class AGOR in FY 06. • Jun 2006: ONR Report to Congress outlines the recommendation that Navy consider the purchase of two, vice four, Ocean Class ships by 2017. • Aug 2006: PMS 325 provided updated schedule and budget for acquisition of two vessels beginning with Phase I Award in FY 09. Revised budget estimate is $8. 5 M in RDT&E and $185 M in SCN. $185 M included in FYDP. • Dec 2006: ONR provided $0. 5 M in RDT&E funding for program initiation. • Jan 2010: Phase I Contracts awarded to Dakota Creek Industries and Marinette Marine Corp on 27 Jan. • Feb 2010: Post Award Conference – Marinette Marine – held on 25 Feb. • Mar 2010: Post Award Conference – Dakota Creek – held on 09 Mar.
