Purpose of AST 2 (From 3207 -00003) The purpose of the AST 2 DT is two fold: 1. Assess and/or verify key technical aspects (i. e. , requirements and design) of developmental items intended for production that would otherwise be difficult to accomplish outside an at-sea exercise; and 2. Execute and mature the engineering development, build and test processes on stationary platforms that represent the bulk of marine assets to be deployed for OOI prior to production.
